I had a chance to go to the Flyfishing Show in Pleasanton today. Once again, fewer rod and reel manufacturers and fewer outfitters as well. No DF&G booth either. No Leland or Western booth as well. This show sems to get a bit smaller every year. I'm amazed that a number of larger rod and reel manufacturers do not have booths. The heyday seemed to be 4-5 years ago.
In spite of this, it's still a way to cast a bunch of rods in one place and still get a lot of good info. It beat playing golf in 45 degree weather, but not skiing in all that nice new powder.
Yeah, 59Pines and I went on Friday. We both commented that there were fewer manufacturers, booths, equipment, etc compared to other years. It used to take up two buildings on just guides and equipment. Even the fly tying stuff has been reduced. Must be the economy or lack of sales at the shows. I agree though, I'd rather be there than working!
