Simms G4 or G3 Jacket

Wondering your guys and gals opinion on the Simms G4 and G3 jacket. From what I know there are slight differences between the 2, and would like to get some more info before I get one of the 2.

Here is what I know
G4  $480
G3  $400
G4   Pit zippers
G4   More zippers through out jacket
Both have all YKK waterproof zippers, microfleece lined hand warmer pockets, 3 layer Performance Shell Gore-tex, water tight stretch cuffs, lots of storage space for all your gear.

Now the prices arent a huge factor so I am not letting that be part of mi decision. I wanted to get others info that has these jackets, how long you have had them, how durable they are and so on. I really wanted to get the Guide jacket, its Simms heaviest jacket out there and to have the cuffs that go over the cuffs makes casting Switch and Spey rods a breeze, but it and the Rivershed have been discontinued.

Also wanted to know is the G4 or G3 a better cold weather jacket or are they both just a shell.

Thanks
Brian

I have the G4. As you know i have a my own personal, built-in insulation layer so don't need a lined jacket for warmth. So just having the shell is great and Simm's sizing is quite roomy so there is plenty of room for extra layers should they be needed. I fished in it in some very heavy down pours and steady snow a rain all day and have been kept comepletely dry. I have never used the G3 but do like having plenty of pockets in the G4 as I can keep all my stuff, that I need for the day, in it and leave the fishing vest behind.

It is 80 buck more but I got mine as a b birthday gift so never had to make the decision!!biggrin

Anywa hope this helps.

Cheers

Alastair

I picked the G3 over the G4....I notice when trying them on the G3 was slimmer, not as wide...Both jackets kick butt and keep the bad weather out....I think the G3 had a big pocket on the back and the G4 didnt...

thanks for the info guys. Decided to go with the G4 jacket, which does have a back pocket. Hopefully will have the jacket on weds, and also Simms put out a LTD Guide wader this yr only for guides. It was a G4 wader hyped up on camo and extra dodads so that is on the way as well. So looks like I will finally be all Simmsed out. aka Simms Wh-re. Cant wait to try out the new gear. Might break them in on the opener of the A, or shoot up to the trinity asap.
