Finally made it out to the Yuba to experience those hard fightin' rainbows that I'm always reading about. We hit the water with Ryan Johnston and let me say what an awesome dude, phenomenal guide, hard working and VERY patient. Thanks to Emerger and MX19 for the recommendation! Those fish were unbelievable fighters, strong and acrobatic. Now I know what all the fuss is about when hooking into these beauties!
Glad you had a fun time!!! Â Ryan was the first guide that I had the pleasure of sitting in a drift boat with. Â First riffle of the drift. Â I am a little groggy at 6AM watching the bobbicator. Ryan yells out settttt!! Â I see only a little wiggle of the bobbicator. Â Still half asleep I hear settttttttt! again. Â UP comes a fish out of the water... flopped off. By the third or fourth drift Emerger and I had multiple double hookups. Â
I am sure you heard setttt! plenty of times yesterday. Â Tight lines.
Oh by the way wade fishing is reallllly slow right now. Â I would wait for 2-3 weeks to get out on the Yuba...
We are possibly going to the yuba this weekend  and hope we do as well as you , sounds like an epic day congrats, Sara and me went out with slim during the egg bite in redding what a good day that was lots of misses and lots of fish tons of fun hope too see someone out there this weekend give us a holler if you do

Ty, Congrats to you. Drifting is so productive. It helps to have a good guy on the oars.
Otter, I hear ya. It is difficult to make that first set at o'dark thirty. I've missed many hooksets at that time.
If you guys get a chance, stay on the Yuba until sundown. The caddis emergence in the last wee bit of daylight has been consistently good. Tan #12 soft hackles swung with a smidge of tungsten putty or a tiny split shot above the fly using a floating line has been deadly.
I couldn't agree more, but I think the real bite is 4+ weeks out, AT LEAST!!! I was up Sunday, heard you were too. Finally made it out on the water. I made it back to the Happy Viking tio see the 7-9th innings of the Giants' game, but it was VERY hard to leave the river. WOW is all I can say.
The beers were cold , where were you???  Sadly, I saw a 40+ pound dead beaver on the river bank. I'm sure that the Otter was mournning the loss of his close cousin.
4 + weeks....... shoot i might just make the tail end of that!!!

Bob
Well beavers are rodents belonging to the genus Castor, Otters belong to the weasel family, Genus Lontra. No close relationship there Bob. And that concludes todays biology lesson. Of course we know you ment the Otter known as Chris . Nice fish Ty.
Actually according to my records Otters really like Beavers, especially big brown beavers!! Anyways I was released from juvenile hall today and finally landed a fish. I can't wait until the salmon show up.... Otters will sometimes prey on the little fish behind the salmon...
The quality of banter from this motley crew NEVER disappoints!
Any recommendations for close, legal space to pitch a tent and camp in that general area?
Please PM if most appropriate!
