Truckee report 7-24 & 7-25

Alastair and I headed up for a quick hitter to the Truckee area this past weekend.  We fished the Truckee down low near Nevada, at the Loop, on the Little T and hit NF Yuba on the way home.

We probably coulnd not have timed it worse.  A full moon was out at night, high sun during the day and it was a mere 98 degrees in Truckee on Saturday.  This did cause us to engage in some extensive rehydration at a couple of our watering holes during and after our fishing escapades.

Fishing was not good.  I have not seen the Little T this dead in a long time.  No bugs, no rises, no action.  We did get to watch one hell of a lightening show though. There were bugs galore on the Truckee, but no fish on them, not even in the evening when caddis were everywhere.  We worked our butts off for a couple of fish.  Alastair had a pig on, but he pulled the Truckee shuffle and LDR'd.  In order to get our spirits abck in order, we fished the NF Yuba SUnday and got beaucoup smaller fish.  The river is in excellent shape and fished very well.  This will be a good bet for the rest of the summer.

We went on a 2 man Chicken Wing and Hefeweizen tour of greater Truckee after fishing.  We ran into one of Brian's old friends, Katie.  Brought back an old chuckle.  The river up near town was getting hit pretty hard with anglers.  I'm planning on better success next time!  It was ablast just to get out.  Sadly, no pictures this time.

Glad you had some fun on North Fork.  Hope you didn't fling any of those poor fish into the bushes...  You should have went up to the little gem of a lake up north.  They have a self serve bar in the middle of the lake...  The brownies were jumping as usual.  Dry flies for brownies.  The best part was talking to a Grass Valley/ Yuba River local.  He said he and his buddies used to use clicker counters to see who could catch 100 shad in one outing....

You know, I had mine with me.  I told Alastair, next time we had a morning like that, we need to head to Old Greenwood or Coyote Moon and tee up for an afternoon 18.

Alastair did get to personally view the remains of the Bombay Saphire bottle that Shaun attemted to polish off, thus earning the Dr. Bombay handle.  Sadly, he wasn't there to attempt to finish the feat.

It was pretty slow from a fishing point of view but good times were had. We did catch a few but none of anysize. Although I did take a picture of this one of Bob's just to prove we did catch some fish!!!

PS. Now looking at at the size of the grin I would have thought Bob would have been holding a fish the size of of the one Rich (rgloft) just posted.

Anyway hope to see a few of you guys on the Yuba saturday.

The only reason my smile is so big is that we were just puuling off of the river.  I knew that we were only 10 minutes from refreshments at the Bar of America.  That is a smile of anticipation my friend!
