Been a while since I fished the creek (can't remember the last time) - but it's so nice to see our efforts coming to fruition with all the signage and new regs postings. Given the overgrown state of the trails and lack of garbage at access 5, my emperical observation is that there is a bit less pressure this spring than in years past. That, combined with C&R may lead to a rebound.
I started around 4:45 PM - and the first thing I noted when I hit the water were a few big caddis, a couple yellow sallies, and some Baetis flying around. The sallies and baetis were typical, the caddis were a pleasure to see, as I haven't seen them in a year or two. This echoes what Ken was saying about the increased numbers of caddis this season. I hope that bodes well for the fishing.
anyway, i did a bit of reading on recent reports before going out and despite them, was optimistic I'd get into some fish. I like fishing spots around access 5 at these flows.
Well, it was slow, but not terribly slow. Hooked up 6 or 7 times, landed 3 or 4 small guys and a couple about 12 inches or so. Wasn't fast and furious, but not super slow either. All the spots that typically hold fish still do. Nymphs, dries and soft hackles all yielded strikes.
all in all, it was great to get back on the water.
