Feather River Steelhead Report Monday 4/26
Permalink

I fished the Feather River for the first time on Monday 4/26.  Floated the river with Ryan Johnson.  I was into fish the entire day, I hooked up 21 fish and sadly only landed 9.  These steelhead are really aggressive and strong.  All of the fish landed were wild fish except for 2 that were Hatchery fish.  Biggest fish of the day was 22".

Thanks for a successful day on the river Ryan!!

Yes, you can access several spots to wade fish the Feather.  Ryan showed my a couple of access points inside the Oroville Wildlife Refuge.  Seems to be a long road inside the Refuge that follows the river and allows access to a couple of riffles.  I wish I better better directions for you.  Just watch the signs off Oro Dam Road for the Oroville Wildlife Refuge.

THe oro wildlife area is good, just make sure to not leave valuables in your car. There are also a number of good riffles right near the town of oroville, with a number of access points. The high-flow section of the feather can also be good, although easier access points are in the low flow/oriville wildlife area.

Wading is cake right now on the feather.  They aren't releasing anything out of oroville which is only at 50% capacity or so.

Drifters right about the wildlife area. The access areas in town aren't much better either. Those little skate punks like to smash car windows for fun!

richard I am listening, Id love to go sometime, and sorry I couldnt get back to you Im in Nevada/Arizona (shoddy cell service) at the FLW tournament, and from what I think/know (which isnt muchaww) but the middle fish is a river fish that hasnt went to the ocean yet, so is technically still a Rainbow trout, and the other two are "Steelhead" and they get that silver color cause they have gone to the ocean and better camo out there than bright yellow/gold

Nice analysis, Kyle. That was my take as well.
