Went striper fishing with the former PCT leader.  Gary caught this mystery fish!  I was just having a hard time casting my 9wt with a sinking tip.  Gary says it is easier to catch the shad in a few weeks.  I can't wait for the shad.biggrin

There are Stripers in the system right now. I know a few people who have gotten some. I heard that Verona at the Sac/Feather confluence is on (if the weather stabilizes).

I read a report Bill Kiene's board that one of his customers caught a shad at the Paradise Beach area. If I have some free time this week, I may swing a few Pinkies, Bleeders, or some Bangers in some lower areas.

I got a day in last week and compared notes with a few friends. As we expected, it was too early for American Shad. Either the person who reported to Bill K. just happened to be at the right place at the right time, or he was a lying sack of &*(^.

In regards to Stripers, Okie has it right. They are in the system year round. Last month, I saw a Striper attack a trout at Lower Sunrise.

Was out on the Delta yesterday with Al Bunch from american fly. We drove around for a total of about 50 miles, the weather was great but, NO BIRDS, NO BAIT, NO FISH. Al was discusted on how the fishing was. yes we got in some fish, but they were 10-13' fish. I did get into 2 fish that went 15 and 16" but those where the only 2 big fish of the day and those are just schoolies. even though we landed about 50 fish, there was no size to them. My first day on the delta, first day striper fishing and best yet on the fly. It was a blast, i was a giddy school girl all day. to al he ranked it less than a 1 but for me it was one of the best day on the water yet.

What he was saying is that the striper fishing is going to decline even more before it gets any better. He did say that the american, yuba and feather should get an ok run of them this yr but its not going to be like it has been in the past. But either way ill be out there trying either way.
