I tie tube fly's for Steel mostly, but you cant go wrong with a intruder type tied fly for big browns and rainbows or large mouth bass..they mimick so many types of bait fish when tied with the correct color scheme. I have an old school regal vise and like you I use nails that I have hammered out to fit into the vise..bottom line with tube fly's is that the more marabou and legs you use the better the fly will be. although on the flip side sometimes the more sparcely the fly is tied the better is will be...go figure! smile

***side note...on the bunny fly that you tied, (BTW great looking fly) throw in some big eyes, gold doll eyes from Michaels work great (6mm) and would bring your fly to "life" more so than you would think!.glue them in at the thread head..use GOOP to attach them..or just the old stick em' eyes work well too!!!just use the GOOP to attach for more durability! biggrin

I dont know but I think there is too much of a head tied on there. I dont have any experiance tying tubes, but it seems like there shouldnt be so much at the tie off point. Tips are welcome.

Ya Def. tie a smaller head, you can also make some egg sucking leeches just by adding a plastic bead on the tippet..using Marabou ,ostrich herl and crystal flash, basically any material that will make the entire fly's move and wave as its being stripped.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PdbchgEUw0

**side note***...once you have gotten good at tying on tubes, start tying extended body mayfly's on a sewing needle using a thin strip of plastic bag as the base for the body and then transfering the body to a hook afterwwards! they will look more realistic and float like corks!
