A couple of us went up to the Yuba on Friday. Once again, a little rain kept many of the fair weather fans off of the river. Nonetheless, we decided to head upriver away from any crowds. We worked our way up from the bridge, trying all kinds of rigs. No bugs were coming off in the morning, no fish were rising and there was no action to speak of for us. The water clarity is much better. I'd call it perfect, just enough tinge to give us fishermen some cover on the bank, but plenty of clarity for the fish to eat. A good number of Swala's were hatching and flying around in the afternoon, but the fish are just not keyed into them yet for some reason. We did see one small rise in the PM in one of the slicks. They were chasing some very small bugs.
After trying all sets of setups, I went to a pretty much desperation rig and we started nailing some nice fish on the setup. No, it wasn't a San Juan Worm. Anyways, we landed a couple of nice fish (19") and a bunch of 14"-16" fish as well, which turned the catch around for us. I would never had fished this rig, it was a stroke of luck. I am willing to reveal this rig to anyone who has purchased or supllied a bruno to me in the past. Here are a couple of flics from the day.
