Where to go would still need to be decided. I'm thinking west slope sierras. Some place with multiple options, up around 10,000 foot elevation. Probably 3 days 2 nights.  Its along way off but we should start tossing some ideas around. If anyone is actually experienced at this even better.

Bah!!! and while you are up there why don't you run over John Muir's grave with your big 4 x 4 wheels. With any luck they might also have put in a Buger King at the top of half dome if you get hungry. I thought the concept of fishing in the high country was all about getting away from the luxuries of life and get back to being a proper biped again and use those legs that are so often trapped under an office desk for the year.

I have just sent off my permit request form for a seven day stint in Kings Canyon National Park, it will encompass roughly 50 -55 miles of walking over a six day period. Starting at SouthLake near bishops pass, we will be heading north through evolution valley and back out through Piute pass via Northlake. The elevation ranges from 9,500 to 11,200 at bishops pass. From a rough count on the map we will be passing within a few hundred feet of 52 lakes and about 4 river tributaries, including the Kings river, the San Joaquine river and Bishop Creek. Hopefully, this will provide more fishing opportunity than I can shake my fly rod at. I only hope there will be time in the day after the hiking to get some fishing in.

Roll on August, I would invite you all along but I don't think the wife would appreciate it.

Denis, I know the route. You will have lots of fishing opps to shake your fly rod. Make time, because that's a lot of trekking and elevation in a week's time. There's a section of water worth shaking your fly rod near your route.

Dr. B, I was justing pulling out the books and nosing around online for a early or mid  summer pack trip. Did the headwaters of the East Carson River via Grey's Crossing and then up into Silver King Creek divide late last season. That was an awesome 3-day trip along Silver King Creek meadow section. Kick ass scenery, browns in the Silver King meadow and bows in the upper Carson pocket water. No people and relatively easy to get to, though a bit of a slag coming back out. It's 4wt rods and dry fly dropper water.

Denis, not familiar with the book, but it looks great and the reviews were positive. Yeah, beautiful little high mountain trout are cool fished beneath towering spires and granite stairways. Sounds like an awesome trip.

well DENIS dont get your panties in a bunch. 2 things, 1) i have never been on a backpacking trip so i wouldnt know, last time i checked u do need to drive in somewhere, then hike it in from there. but from the sounds of it you are one bad mama jamma that hiked it from your house to your fishing spot, if thats the case my hats off to ya. 2) when i did fished the high country for a day, and the only time i fished the high country, if it wasnt for the jeep it would have been a 10 mile hike up the hill all the way with my 60 lb pontoon strapped to my shoulders, not including all my gear, but with the jeep it was only 2 mile hike, so it made things a a lot easier.

so fyi, you do need to drive in somewhere, and why not drive in as far as u can then hike in from there. that was the point of my post. i love it when people take things way out of proportion, and blow them up into something unreal. good job denis, way to be the ONE.
