and as far as best spots goes. the early worm catches the fish.
Years ago that statement was sootrue. My partner and I used to park at the bridge and hike up to the narrows before first light. If I remember correctly it was about 90 minutes of hauling butt to get there. We fished downriver and never ran into anybody else until the Davis property.
Or you could always wait until the flows drop (about 1,800 cfs or less) and float down from Englebright.

So a few of you kids want to flex your ego's....since you want to make it a team event I will get in on the bet. Lets say we up the stakes a bit and get rid of the big talkers..If my team wins ,you all have to make a $250.00 donation to putah creek trout or cast hope...
P.S. my team members will Ryan Jonhston, Hogan Brown and myself...
Just for the record.......I'm not one of the few wishing to flex his "ego", I wasn't planning on taking part of the tourney, Just wanted to be a judge, to facilitate the ego fed tourney so we it could be settled once and for all, that way we don't have to hear about all the back and forth here.
However..........Now that a good cause is involved, I think a wager involving a donation to PCT or Cast for Hope is a great idea. Not sure about $250 a person, but maybe $250 a team. Schedule permitting, count me in. I think it might actually be worth putting together a decent size tourney on the Y for these foundations, maybe spread the word on the various other fishing forums. Maybe you can talk Ryan or Hogan into donating a a guide trip to the winning team, and just require everyone to pay an entry fee of $250, $150, or whatever amount, per team.
P.S. Jeff & Mike, just signed you up (and no, they are not guides)

When I came up with the Yuba tourney idea I never intended on it being a team event, Its already an unfair advantage, I dont fish with anyone from this board and dont have any flyfishing buddys, and to be honest without personally seeing how someone fishes I wouldnt want to be randomly set up with a joe schmoe who sucks at fishing. MX19 its funy you mention us "kids" wanting to "flex" our egos yet you pick guides to be on your team, showing us who the real "kids" are and who really wants to "flex" egos. The team idea isn't a good one, lets say you have a bad day of fishing but your buddys hammer them picking up all the slack that you didnt. BS if you ask me. Flyfishing is never a team event, its always a competition between you and the next guy or you vs the fish, and thats how the tourney should be. I'm all for the donation thing cause they will bring more people to the tourney and go to a good cause. How about a buy in fee for all who enter and that money will then get donated. And its really not about flexing egos here, its more of a put your money where your mouth is.

Ryan is one of my very good friends and hogan and I both work for or with Cast Hope a non profit company Ryan started to get kids in need from all walks of life on the water...
I think you should book a day with Ryan .Iam sure you will wack plenty of fish and have a great day on the water...
wow guys this got way out of hand. i dont think anyone was trying to flex anything. thought this would be a good idea for a bunch of people to get together to shoot the breeze as well as get some fishing in. now its an all out war. cant we all just get along.

Ok scratch the whole competition thing. How about we just have a fund raiser day on the yuba. Everyone is welcome to join and can even have a stream side class. Participents will each pay somehting like $25. Then we will donate the money to PC???? I think this is a much better way to go about it? A fundraiser day without egos. I agree this totally went in the wrong direction, I apologize. Lets just fish and raise some money!

Regardless of whether you were jolking or not, I still think you or Ryan might want to consider putting together a tourney in the future. Like most golf tournaments, if you could get some sponsors involved, (i.e., some fly companys to donate some gifts), have a raffle involoved, maybe some special gift going to the winning team, you could accumulate a great contribution for your NPO. If you ever want to put something together, I'd be more than happy to help and would deffinately have a team and entry fee ready to go.

great idea guys. i think the yuba thing would be a great idea, put the egos aside and just get together to fish. put in a few bucks to help out PCT, maybe we can have it at the uc davis property. do a lil bbq while we are at it. people can bring an item for the bbq. make it a full day, and do this when its skwala time.
i do think a tourny would be nice but it would take a great deal of work. i would be down to help out as well. i think an entry fee would be a good idea then that money could go to PCT or a NPO. maybe it can involve the 6 heritage trout challange as well. and we can do it over a yr or 6 months or something along those lines. i think something like this could happen with help from others.

Awesome we are back in the right direction. BC I think your right with the Davis property, and a bbq. that would be cool. I know we can get enough people together on this one to make a hefty contrabution.
Drifter, They're my pennies, so I can do what I want with them. Anyways, you guys care too much about who's better than who. I got an idea... Just fish. The way you guys were going about this was wrong. I liked MX19's idea... Do a tourney, but make it for PCT, not your ego. By the way, I don't buy flies anymore.
I have to say I have been watching this whole discussion and it has been fun to watch you all having a little fun throwing jabs. I like the new idea and would like to be apart of it also. It also like the idea of a stream side class. I did one of these with a guide on the feather years ago just before I was about to give up on fly fishing and it changed my world. I think many would benifit. I think the more bait dunkers we can convert the better for all of our fisheries. I also think this could be fun. I have never fished that part of the Yuba. BBQ sounds great also. How about starting to put a date to this thing, if it is open to all.
