Does the rod have a warranty?  What brand is it?

Call Cabela's.  They have a really good Customer Service department.  If they will not replace the rod, you can just add a new tip eyelet to the rod.  Ask Brian Clemens about that one.  He's the king of broken rods.

Get a new tip and cement or epoxy it in . A quick fix but it will work.

cabelas if its less than a yr old will give u a new one. u ship that one back your cost, they ship out a new one their cost. or u buy a new one so u can temp fix this one and still fish. once the new one comes in sent the old one back and they will refund your money for the new rod.

fixing a rod is easy as well, find a bigger tip to put on the rod and use epoxy, but having a bigger eyelet at the tip sucks, eventually it will need to be replaced, broke the tip on my $600 scott sts 10ft 6wt, it sucked, but it was only about 3 inches worth, costs 45 to get fixed through scott but it was middle of steelhead season, so i repaired it for free. so its a temp fix, i dont like how big the loop is on the tip seems like the line gets more tangled around the end of the rod more, but again its a quick easy fix for now. come end of steelhead season ill send it in to get replaced.

If you just put a new tip on the action won't be the same.

He's used to handling a 3wt rod with a 2wt reel.

$600 for a Scott STS, huh? Hopefully they threw in an extra RedFly 2 10" 6 wt to use as a backup and cut you a good deal on a reel with line. Let me know if you have any problems working with Scott.
