Good going DJ. I know exactly how you feel hooking up a big one. I completely lose all rational thought and just want to do everything possible to land it. Then they usually break-off cuz I freak out so bad.
its was actually a really great day on putah yesteday, there was 3 of us, it was paul (djwatts) jon (jvento) and myself, i was there mostly to help these guys out and maybe get in a lil fishing here and there while they was gettin their grove on. i tell u what we hooked into come pigs, everything was over 20"s, djwatts hooked into 3 fish, one that went an easy 26"s if not 2 more inches, it would have never fit in my net. the other 2 he hooked were a lil smaller both respectable though in the lower 20"s. by the end of the day djwatts was definitely drifting better, mending better and definitely had some better fish fighting skills, nothing like learning how to fight a fish with hands on experience and doing it on putah creek when the fish is in the upper 20"s. jvento i think had his best day ever on putah, i had him dialed in with the right flys and he went to town. my new putah creek special is really coming alive and working well out there. anywho he hooked i think 6 or 7 fish, and landed 5 or 6. again all fish over 20"s. as for myself, i had a productive day guiding but not guiding, just gettin my practice in to becoming a future guider. it was fun and have to say even though dj didnt land any fish just seeing his ear to ear smile and the yelps and yeehaaas he had, made me just as happy. as far as fishing goes i hooked 3 landed one, the one i landed was about 21"s, the 2 that i lost where big, one mid 20s, the other definitely upper 20s, to be honest the big boy seemed like the same fish that dj hooked as well, but either way it was a huge fish. and ill be out there soon. maybe tomorrow depending on if the VA gets me into surgery tomorrow or not.

Guys, those are some nice fish. I would politely and respectfully ask that we think long and hard about the ramifications of posts with these pictures during spawn season . . .  and whether these ramifications are in line with what we all want to occur on the creek during the spawn season.
Again, politely and respectfully . . . you guys know me and I am not a board basher or trying to start any arguments. let's think about what we're all trying to accomplish.
no it actually keeps your hands from gettin wet when u handle fish, your gloves will get wet but not your hands, that way your hands stay warm and dry, not wet and freezing. its temp until i get some neo gloves. it actually works really well u should try it.

A)Â Fish the creek, don't fish areas that have redds where fish are spawning or preparing to spawn.
B) DO NOT FISH THE REDD!!!! Let the fish reproduce so we can catch a fish next year!!!
C) Take all of the pictures you want and post them in February. We'll still love you and your fish in February. Hell, you can even lie and tell us you caught them again in February.
You should just be aware that now, during the spawn, is a very critical time for the future productivity of the creek. There aren't too many places to fish this time of year, so if you go about boasting about your success you are sure to increase traffic on the creek which negatively impacts the creek.
I noticed that this was also posted in two different places on Kienes.Â
Your gonna be doing a lot of counting... In front of you, behind you, both sides of you... If you keep posting pics of spawners, it's gonna look like this before you know it.
My personal opinion.....I don't bother with Putah this time of year, it's way over rated.
Sure you can catch some big fish but they really don't have that much fight to them. It's very crowded. Doesn't take too much effort to catch fish. I'd rather leave them to do their thing and spawn, even if they are not actively on redds they will be soon or just finished and are spent and need to recover.
I'd rather show off my fishing skills in more technical/challenging water than on Putah in Winter. Like on the Yuba next week!
But if anyone else wants to fish it I won't bash them, just my 2 cents.
I hate to say it but .. maybe its time the creek should be closed after november 16th.
Not a bad idea, considering there are a half dozen other great winter fisheries not far from the bay area that wont be potentially harmed by the crap that goes on at putah.
I also still dont see the need to post a picture...you could just say you had a good day and give some general info in a public report. atleast wait to post pics after the spawn is done.

WOW someone has such great passion for something and this is where it goes. now i see where the bad rep comes from. u guys put the icing on the cake.
U know what this goes out to everyone. and i mean everyone. I DONT FISH THE REDDS ON PUTAH, NEVER HAVE NEVER WILL. each one of those fish, and ones previously came from water 4ft deeper and no redds withing 20yrds. think what u all want, i really dont care.
Hey Black Cloud thanks for the horrific message u left on my cell phone last night, that was very nice. thats really gonna make me listen to what u are anyone else has to say. i would never in a million yrs leave a message like that to anyone.
as far as guiding, i helped the guy out. is that a better term, instead of guide. so what if u used the term guide, on my goodness i just sined. GUIDE GUIDE GUIDE. i took a buddy thats is having a rough time and i took him fishing. wow there is always something with u people. guess if the post isnt gramatically correct u all go off.
i could say i had a great day, and everyone would say bullsh-t, cuz there are no pics.
maybe u would think PCTO would want to see the pics of these fish, cuz last time i checked when they did the shocking they got tones of lil guys with less than a hand full of big ones. oh ya and u posted a pic of that one, but thats ok right.
u may all think that i am making such a huge negotive impact on putah creek, but the true negotive impact is from those that pull this crap day in and day out. a guy cant post about his day cant post pics (whether on putah or any other body of water) because u pricks will find something to bash the guy about.
and ya i think djwatts posted about this on kienes, no pics though. i never started any of those post.
love to keep chit chattin but this is gettin tiresome. time to fish.

#2 It is OK to post pictures of your success. That's what life is about, enjoy the good times.
The real issue is this . . . when these pictures get posted now, people see this and want to come up and fish the creek. Many people have not been educated about fishing redds and WILL come up and pound the redds. Secondly, people who simply don't care will come up and fish the redds. These pictures, POSTED AT THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN SPAWNING HAS STARTED, serve as a negative impact on the long term improvement of the trout population because of this one issue.  That is the one and only issue here.
Do not take this as a me against the world issue. Please listen to the actual issue on this topic, betterment of the fishing population on Putah and and take the suggestions made for sincere thought and consideration in the future under similar circumstances.

Yes, it is never your fault. There is a giant conspiracy to ruin your good day on the water. I left you that message on the phone because it would be deleted from the forum. Take some responsibility and stop crying like a baby.
It's a free country and there are no laws concerning fishing Putah during spawn... But, my personal opinion is that these fish need to be left alone from mid-November to after January. They're going through a lot of stress by building their nests, finding mates, fighting for mates, birthing eggs, and protecting their eggs.
Just look at the dark coloring as well as some of the hook mouths on the trout. Their bodies are metamorphosing into spawning colors and spawning looks to attract mates. They normally don't look like this during the other parts of the season.
These trout are not like salmon that normally redd-up in shallow water that we can see like on the Lower Sac or Feather. They can have their nests in deep water...like 4 ft or deeper.
I hope Putah Creek Trout works to not only make our home water catch and release, but to temporarily close the season during the spawn.
Because telling someone their acting like a baby is really going help? Constructive criticism is ok but when you start slinging insults you might as well just stop talking.
