What brand off thread do you preffere for basic fly's in the 16 to 20 size range. I've been using danville but have recently found uni-thread to be a much better thread. I also had been tying most often with 6/0 but have found that 8/0 works better for most of my applications.

uni 8/0 is what I use most. 6/0 for bigger flies.

When I tie size 18 or 20 flies, I use 14/0 thread.  The spool says the brand is "Gordon Griffiths".  The stuff may be difficult to find in stores, but I find it's best when I want to dub a very tiny amount of material.

The gordon 14/0 can be found at Fish First. It is good for small RS-2s and midges. They also sell lagurtun wire x-fine for small zebras and micro micro mayflies.

I tie primarily with 8/0 uni. Have you had any problems with Gordon Griffiths being poorly wound to the spool? Read sometime back... Any experiences with Bennechi all-white 12/0?

I use 8/0 UNI-Thread for most of my tying.  I like that it comes in tons of colors, and it's pretty strong for its size.

I also use moslty Uni 8/0. But I also like the Ultra Thread 70 (deniers?). It is about the same diameter as Uni 8/0 (actually a bit bigger, but not nearly as big as 6/0), a bit stronger than Uni 8/0, lightly waxed, and it lays flat. It's available at Fish First. I have some 14/0 ("Sheer" brand - think I got it at Fish First too) but I don't use it much.

Shaun, how's the tying going, you producing some killer flies now? Any time you want to get together and tie let me know.
