A question about scissors

What do you guys use to cut wire close to the body (say on a copper john)? I've been using my Dr. Slick scissors and (as I expected) it's not too great for them. Wire cutters don't work for the close up work.

The things to get are called "Flush Cutters" I think!?!confuse Electritians use them when wiring breaker boxes and the likes. I got mine at a my local hardware store and have since given a couple of pairs away o fellow fly tiers who liked them. I'll bring mine along next time we go fishing so you can check them out I bent mine...don't ask how 'cause i don't know and they still work better than anything else I have used.

I just bought a really cheap pair of tying scissors off of sierra trading post, they are my dedicated wire scissors.

or you could just use the back of your regular scissors, just not the tips.

Why do you even bother to cut the wire, tie it off and then just work it back and forth and it will break off flusher than you could ever get it with sissors. No need to EVER cut wire!

The wiggle back and forth method works great and leaves little or no tag end of wire protruding from the fly. I have also used plain old finger nail clippers which work well . They cut very flush to the fly body and are cheap . Viking

Save your scissors Vince. Here's what I do, tie the wire down tight when you're done wrapping. Bend the tag end back towards the tail of the fly then wind it around in circles until it breaks off. Leaves a nice clean nub.

I just use a pair of Dr. Slicks, but they are different from my thread cutting scissors. You'll dull them quick.

I use wire cutters.  In my experience it's faster than breaking off the wire.

I use a $1.09 nail clipper.

Waste of a $1.09. It only take two seconds to break if you give it a whirlie bird, and unless your a commericial tyer, which im sure no one is on this site, then you have the extra two seconds to spare!

It takes 2 seconds when the wire is tied in and you need to break the tag end off, it works fine and gives a nice flush result. But I just can't get it done right when I need an inch or 2 of wire from the spool... the clipper is much easier for that (at least in my hands).
