Im fishing the yuba for the first time tomorrow, I heard the river is closed above the 20 bridge?  What type of water is it downstream of the bridge.  I like to cover a lot of ground is it easy to get around?  Any info would be great.

Hi Ian,
Just park at the south side of the 20 bridge and work your way downstream. You will encounter some good runs.

If you wish to fish further downstream, you can drive to the river at the Hammond Grove Park access (a mile or two east of the Browns Valley gas station). The water is low enough to cross the river and fish from the south bank. You can go upstream or downstream from there.

You will probably be better off nymphing although there is some good swing water to be had.

thanks for the info.  Slow day for me, had some action towards the end of the day.  Looks like I need to put some hours in on the river

AbeyBoy,

I have to admit, I'm intrigued by swinging flies on the Yuba. I've tried it a few times without luck, but I've seen it work. Are you using a floating line with a split shot, or sink tip? How many feet of line do you swing?
