Just another reminder that Saturday, November 21st is another Putah Creek cleanup day . . . MArk your calendars!!!!!!! The creek looked cleaner than normal the the other day, so I'm guessing that actual necessary cleanup time will be less than the past. I propose that we get a good crew out there, fish afterwards and then rendezvous at the Buckhorn for a big steak and som rehydration in the evening hours. I don't plan on waiting until Thanksgiving to restore some of those spent calories during the day, and I sure don't plan on driving home thirsty either.
Maybe we could even head up to Yuba City and fish the Lower Yuba on Sunday? All kinds of good things can begin at the clean-up. Put your minds to work. We could even review Brian's first posts on the board after a cold one or two???
u can count me in. dont fish on saturdays and i dont work so ill be there.

November 21 is the scheduled date for the annual Putah Creek Cleanup Day.  Each year at the end of the bait fishing season Napa Valley Fly Fishers team up with Fly Fishers of Davis, Putah Creek Trout, and members from the Putah Creek Trout online Bulletin Board to clean up the creek.  In only a few hours of effort in the morning this large crew of people who care about our local trout water will make an impressive pile of trash, tires, and who knows what.  The cleanup will be followed by a barbecue lunch provided by the Napa Valley Fly Fishers and cooked by the Davis club, and of course there will be John Reynold's famous 'Road Kill Chili'.  Sweeneys Sport Store provides raffle prizes, and I have acquired a special prize for the collector of the Most Unusual Trash Item.
I think I scoped out the most unusul item while on the creek 11/7. Oh.....4 into the mid 20's on this outing . You'll never guess wht they hit !!!!!!!!!!!!
Well here we go again!! I have a rugby mini camp on the 21st and 22nd from 9am till 3pm. I will see if one of the other coaches can cover for me for a few hours, so hopefully I will see you all there. The cleanup shouldnt take too long this time like Oneweight mentioned the creek hasnt been too trashed since the last clean up.
I coach for Dixon, this is our 4th season. Vacaville has a great program as well and have to my knowledge been around since 1981.Thats when I played for Fred Jones for one year. Beside flyfishing Rugby is one of my true passions, talk about sports on the opposite ends of the intensity scale!!
LilWhippersnapper, haha, perhaps, but I had a Welsh math teacher who played on a national rugby team in Europe (I can't recall which). The class inquired what professional rugby was like on many occasions. I asked him once, "have you ever seriously injured another player?", and in a thick Welsh accent he says,
"Oh yea, many times. I've broken a man's arm, and knee, and lots, and lots of fingers."

When fly fishing turns into that, I'm out
Vince,
Hate to sate the obvious here Vince but if he was Welsh and played for a national team one would have to presume it was Wales. However the Welsh team back in the day were some of the hardest bastards to ever roam the planet. Now that most of the coal mines are gone they are not quite what they used to be. But if you want to see some real tough guys you need look no further than South Africa........ the reigning world champs!!!! (Maybe I should have put this under "a little shameless promotion!?!)
Â
Anyway we should get out sometime PM me if you want to get out sometime.

I remembered it wasn't Wales... I think it was Norway. I have no idea how rugby teams work there... In Europe, it seems nationality has nothing to do whether you play for the team - just look at all the Brazilians in European soccer teams!
I want to see the South African reputation extend to fly fishing - when's the record for largest brown trout on the fly in the US going to be set by you?
cheers, Vince

Has anyone else noticed more junk in the river than usual? I'm used to seeing trash on the banks and road, and while there is less of that, I've noticed a lot more sunken cans, bottles, and other debris. It's just out of reach (3-4ft deep) most of the time...
I'm new to the PC cleanups, but maybe a few of us should just walk down the river with sticks with spikes on the end and do a water cleanup? I bet we could drift a float tube equipped with a trash bag too.
Great idea Vince. Talk to Richard about pick up sticks-he made up several for the sept cleanup. As you recall, there were a number of inflatables along the creek-they are a major target with the flows down.
wow jt did u really have to do that. man those was some good memories

It was great to see so many people from the board at this event. There must have been 20 of us all together. Besides the clean-up, signs were posted at spawning areas that both identified redd areas and asked people not to fish these areas. CAL-tip signs were also posted at access points along the creek. In furtherance of Brian's river Diva status, we came across a note that someone had scrawled on one of the survey boxes up at the bridge. The note had a lot of verbs in it. JT was able to get a picture of this message and hopefully is able to share this with us. Thanks to all for coming and pushing the PCT name out there once again. Here are a couple of flicks from the day:
The cleanup was a good time. Nice to meet some new people and to see others I haven't seen in a awhile. Thanks to all that helped out and organized the event. I hope all the signs put up help the creek and its trout. Great job on the spawning area warning signs, Very profesional and educational. Looks the Brian Clemens fan club is really taking off.
