I think this is a stickleback.  Caught it the other day by access 5.  It was only about 2" long and uglier than a mo fo.  This is not the actual one I caught but this is what it looked like.  I false hooked it on a midge.

I looked it up in my book, it is actually a distant cousin of the stickleback.  It is known as the Brian Clemens fish due to it's uglinessbiggrin!!!!!!

Notice the resemblance to the picture . . .

Richard-ignore these guys. You hooked a three spine stickle back, native to the creek. Many of us have foul hooked them. I think the three spine is much better looking than the single spine version shown in Bob's postsmile.

Putah is actually loaded with stickleback, by far the most dominant of all the bait fish in the creek.I've been raising them for years now and are really cool to watch them swim as they kind of hover around the bottom looking for food,very hardy as well. They also can live in brackish water in the delta and I assume that is where they came from prior to the construction of Diversion dam.Lake Solano is thick with them and I often wonder how much of a food source these things are to the trout in Putah.

so any idea what i will do next yr.

past yr was does a bear crap in the woods and how many times. i think 3 that day. as well as dont wear underpants when wet wading. very very very bad idea. this yr was sunscreen, yes fishing without a shirt is nice, but no matter the color of your skin, sunscreen is a bright less painfull idea.

ok so what do u all think i will do next yr, break a rod, full in and get swept away by the current, maybe get face to face to a bear, or better yet, and have better luck with the ladies in truckee. lol

After some serious consideration, I have come to the conclusion that you have asked a question that I am unable to answer. . .  what will you do next year?????

u know u will be. i still cant think of what more can there be for me to do.

oh ya did i mention last yr that i fell and landed on a log on the truckee that cut me on the palm. well i cleaned it in the truckee. not a good idea. about a week later when i was home on vacation i couldnt use my hand, come to find out way way infected, thank god for a VA hospital in syracuse new york. the doc squeezed the crap out of my palm, nasties came out of that thing, i almost slapped him, thank god for the ex, she held me back, then put some soothing creme on it gave it a shot, and told me to stay away from the water for 2 weeks. ya right i was fishing on my dads boat the next day on my bday, and a few days later fly fishing west canada creek. TELL ME TO STAY AWAY FROM THE WATER. who he think he is, my mother. lol
