Obviously water temps are important in trout streams and rivers, but I've never used a thermometer out fishing. How many of you guys/ gals check water temps?
I used to religiously, as I'd record it in a fishing notebook. Nowdays I'm bad about taking notes about the day, so less so.
The water temperatures of tailwaters have a very small variance (the book Fishing Small Flies has a great explanation why), so I wouldn't measure it often on Putah.
I'll admit that I don't check it as often as I used to. But checking water temperatures is very useful. The book Fly Fishing for Dummies has a chart in it on the topic.
Like Vince, I used to take notes. I'm lousy at it now.

Ya, I have that book. I'm gonna be up in the mountains this weekend, I'm curious to see what the water temps will be. I need to review that section of the book. Thanks Vince.
