Yuba River 8/30 report
Permalink

We made a last run above the HWY 20 bridge on Sunday, as the river closed today until December 1st for fishing that stretch.  I thought I might see the first couple of salmon in the system, but none were around.  It was another HOT day, near 100 degrees.

The fishing was pretty good in the morning, but shut down completely at about 1:30 PM.  Landed a couple of beauties, one was 19" amd one was 21".  Big fat, fightin' Yuba Rainbows.  Sadly, I left my camera in the car, and being as hot as it was, the last thing I was doing was humping back to the car to retrive a camera.
You'll just have to live with the fish stories.  Got 4-5 more fish that were smaller,
10"-14".

I humped up much farther than I have in the past.  I fished a bunch of new water that was about a mile above the UC property.  Some nice areas, but lots os SAW water as well.

We also got to watch the parade of air tankers heading in to fight the Auburn brush fire all during the afternoon, it was amazing to see all of them heading in.

You can't beat those Yuba Rainbows. DFG says they are steelies that don't leave once they come back due to the great food. I can't believe you are crossing the river up there. I bet you caught some fish on the fish wall!!

Hey Chris, that was one of the great things, flows are way down now, they were about 1250 CFS when we were fishing,  crossing was not an issue!!!!

Is that a new closure for that stretch?  I'm looking at my DFG handbook and google maps and can't figure out where that is.  Plus I've never been there before.  I've been wanting to try the yuba but want to make sure it's open.

I fished it a week ago.started well below the bridge and had a few fish.after a quick lunch fished above the bridge for a few more fish. One of my friends took a dunk in the morning and trashed his camera and cell phone. Then took a second swim in the afternoon and snapped his rod.good thing it was a sage rod.from there cheapest to most exspensive they waranty all there rods...
Fish were not targeting any one or two patterns.they were alll over the buffet...biggest fish was mabe 20" ,but i wll never know cause I lost it on the second jump. The rest were all little guys...

The river above the bridge is closed until December. I wouldn't fish the area until around January or Feb. It is a really slow time of the year!!

Sorry. the best I can do for this one is a totally coagulated Power Bar.  Nothing Fancy.  However, I will put a plug in for a great restaurant, Burgers and Brew in Davis.  Fantastic Niman Ranch burger with 10 brews on tap and about 35 more in bottles.  They have about 15 of these available in 750 ML bottles that are great brews. The restaurant is located in Downtown Davis, I want to say 2nd & C, right acoss from the park where they have teh Farmers Market.

But those don't come with "river dirt".

Lilwhippersnapper,

You're right!!  And without that "river dirt", you miss some of the good bite from that cold one!!

CHris, I find the same thing, it gets really slow up on the Yuba right now and for the next 2-3 monthsbiggrin.
