Been havin some good fun lately in the warm water parts of Putah.  Been scouting out some largemouth, and I think I found a good hole with some major lunkers.  These suckers are huge!  I've pulled out a handful of smaller ones 8"-12" but I need some tips on hookin up the big ones.  I've tried muddlers, clousers, and few other similar pattterns but no takes from the bigger fish.  Any one having any experience with bass in deep water?  Here's a pic of a little guy.  These dudes fight like crazy!

Try using flies that create a lot of racket. Hogan Brown designed flies with rattles and lots of flash. Try them.

Also have confidence with topwater flies. Again, use flies that create a lot of racket. Big deer hair poppers fished correctly can pull a fish that may be 4 or 5 feet deep.

Yeah I second what he Abelboy says....big flashy and don't be scared to use top water flies. It is awesome to get them going at top water flies. If you can try to get to Sweenies in Napa on a Thursday or Friday. Speak to Bob, he is a great guy and fishes the delta all the time for black bass and I am sure he will have a  heap of advice.

Cheers
Alastair.

PS Not familiar with lower Putah where do you get access??

theres also smallmouths down there some quite large. Took a largemouth pushing ten pounds years ago. Float tube or canoe is recomended. Good access around the town of winters, Look for a big radio antenna. Best during high flows out of solano lake.

I've been in Davis, in various spots. I live 2 miles from the Mace Blvd. bridge so it's easy for me to get out there.  I'll go get some of those poppers and see how they do.  Thanks fellas.

Just so you are aware: most of the creek east of I505  to Pedrick road is on private property and the owners are not user friendly. Best fished from a canoe or other floating conveyance.

Thanks for the heads up sk60, I grew up in Winters, so I'm pretty familiar with the private property.  I'm mainly downtream of Pedrick.
