hey guys Me and sarah are going to hit the yuba sat and sun near downieville does any one now of any good places to stop this time of year .IE a lake or a river thats close by or should we just spend our time on the yuba any advice .
I just got back from up there, I would fish early and late, hit up the area between sierra city and bassets, closer to bassets. There are pull outs all along the road. Or, try the area below the bridge, some nice browns in there (the first bridge that crosses the NF of the Yuba). Of course, the wild trout section above ladies canyon is good, and I would hit that up if you are into some decent hiking.

What drifter said. I've been up there a few times this summer already. My aunt and uncle run a bar in sierra city called the soracco saloon. Stop in and have a drink at the end of the day. Also salmon creek just above the little dam off gold lake road has a bunch of brookies. It's a tight little creek but fun.
the salmon creek brookies will suprise you with their size. The size of their heads that is. Giant heads, long skinny bodies. Kind of funny. They locked in the big pools and probably half starve. Boulder hopping is tons of fun, + some great deep cold pools to jump into in the heat of the day.
Lots of pullouts all along the river between downieville and sierra city. Good fun fishing for typically smallish fish. I liked the area below goodyear creek too, Gotta give props to oneweight for that spot. Haypress creek is an option as well if you dont mind some walkin. Wild plum campground is a good place to stay but gets full pretty quick on weekends.
