Anyone have any good locations for the truckee. Im going there tomorrow for the whole weekend. Any tips on locations on the river would be great. Especially for some brownies.

Glenshire Bridge is a good area to hit.  Fishing right in downtown Truckee has quite a few brownies.  Just head down an open lot along the train tracks and you're into good water.  The pocket water along the road going up to Boca reservoir is also good.

+2 with what he said. high sticking in pocket water will be very productive in the town of truckee as well as up above glenshire bridge. but also drys, drys and more drys. find an area, look at the bug activity and turn over some rocks, and fish it hard. the fish are there. the truckee is fishing very very nice right now, with lots of bug activity. you should have a blast. dont forget a 6wt with a sink tip line for early morning and late evening, with any big streamer, throw a streamer and they will come. a 3wt is a blast up there, if u have one bring it, but if not a 4 or 5 wt will do just as well.

went to truckee and came back today. it was the complete opposite then what you would think. the weather got cooler, no bugs, any bug i saw was the empty shell of the nymph stage. i got a grab with a streamer and i think a couple grabs with a nymph (or rocks). there is always next time.

That's why the Truckee is also called the "Trickee." Just as things are going good, it decides to trick you.

I've fished the Truckee quite a bit from the Glenshire Bridge down to Boca.  Try the Glenshire Bridge area or any of the turnouts or bridges off 80 above Boca. I've had really good luck with a crayfish streamer and a small pheasant tail (or similar) dropper.  The bigger fish go nuts for the crayfish.  You can pick up a good crayfish pattern at Mountain Hardware in Truckee.  I can't wait to get back up there.

Was up that area end of last week and got two days fishing in with my Dad who was in from SA. As most on this site know I am a novice, as is my Dad, so maybe I am prone to have less success but for me the fishing on the Truckee was pretty slow. The flows had just moved up and maybe that was part of the reason. Half way through the second day someone mentioned to us that the Little Truckee was fishing a bit better. We moved across there for the last bit of our last day and got into a few fish, which was nice to end the trip on a high.

PS I would post a couple of pics but I not sure how to do this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Alastair,

Start entering a respond, then click "Advanced Editor", and then at the bottom of this page use the "Attach Images" button. Scroll all the way down, and use the "Upload photos" button. I'd love to see them!
