Richard, Alastair, and I fished access #5 after the Putah class today. It was good fun, and I snapped some pictures of some small fish these guys were catching. Maybe this photos will help PCT's efforts with the DFG.
Also included: evidence of a beaver near access #3!
Once again I think I have taken the title of smallest fish!!!!! Scary thing is that this photo that Vince took was about twice the size of the other one that I caught!?! Anyway thank you to Greg and Steve for donating there time. I sure learn't a whole lot and had a great day out. I hope to do it again sometime and also hope to see some of you guys out on the water.

I was wondering how the fishing was the second half of the day,hey small fish are better than no fish! I really enjoyed myself and it was nice to meet some of you guys for the first time, hope you all came away with some usefull info and were not too overwhelmed with my fast paced talking/ instructing. Bono
Below the diversion dam they plug up the creek with there handy work. Sometimes they come right up to your float tube slap there tail cause all hell and scare the living CRAP out of you ! I don't care for em much.
dick hardwood has it right. Beaver rocks. Putah beaver can be a bit musty though, and may carry disease, so you have to be careful.
Seriously, I have been fishing alone in the evening and I swear someone's been throwing big rocks my way due to the WHUMP I hear near me. My guess is (and someone once noted) those sounds were probably pissed off beavers.
Hell knows no wrath like that of a musty putah beaver.
Finally someone made a BEAVER(huh uh Beavis) joke. I didn't touch this thread all day in case we are adults. Thanks JL. There were other jokes, but you were wonderfully obvious. >:)

I had a run in with a beaver last night, you are right vince, they can cut through some pretty hard wood. Â Damn thing kept me up all night with its knawing.

I miss this kind of banter from the old NCFFB. Now we call it the "morgue board".
I've gotten close enough to get a good look at the Putah beavers. There must be something in the water that makes them lose a lot of their teeth. They've got more fur than other beavers too. I think we should include in our PCT plan indigenous beaver removal and relocation, but that's just me.
Thanks guys for playing - oh no, I think I hear a domestic beaver in the house! Better check and see what's going on. Yep. Looking for wood too. Oh no, all I have is empty beers! Better hide in the garage until it goes away! Bad beaver! Shoo! Go take a bath or something.
1 hour ..1 fish today. Small one again seems like I am making a habit of it but hey better than none......then a beaver looking for some wood chased me home!?!

curmudgeon: I completely agree. I've started to do macro photography on their faces to try to identify particular fish from access five. I am interested in estimating populations with a mark and recapture technique (although the "mark" is simply identify features on their face). So if you catch small fish from access five, take a good photo of their face and we can ensure that certain fish survive!
I think the amount of very small fish being caught out there is very good news indeed.
I just hope you all remember these lil guy's are the future of the creek, and you need to use extreme care getting them back in the water ALIVE.
No Worries there mate I am really careful with those little guys.....hopefully when I get them next time they will be alittle bigger though !!
