More small fish

Richard, Alastair, and I fished access #5 after the Putah class today. It was good fun, and I snapped some pictures of some small fish these guys were catching. Maybe this photos will help PCT's efforts with the DFG.

Also included: evidence of a beaver near access #3!

Tree looks like someone tried to cut it down with an axe or hatchet.

There are a number of beaver on the creek, mostly below the diversion dam. There was a dead one at #5 last winter. That looks beaverish work to me.

I don't mind beaver so much. It started in the seventies when I was in high school. Really, you ought to give them a chance. You might be surprised!

dick hardwood has it right.  Beaver rocks.  Putah beaver can be a bit musty though, and may carry disease, so you have to be careful.

Seriously, I have been fishing alone in the evening and I swear someone's been throwing big rocks my way due to the WHUMP I hear near me.  My guess is (and someone once noted) those sounds were probably pissed off beavers.

Hell knows no wrath like that of a musty putah beaver.

Finally someone made a BEAVER(huh uh Beavis) joke. I didn't touch this thread all day in case we are adults. Thanks JL. There were other jokes, but you were wonderfully obvious.

Richard - I took the pictures.

JL is right... those Putah beavers are a little scary. They can cut through some pretty hardwood. I'd stay away from them.

Reminds me of the time my buddy ran into two beavers at once.  What a story that was!

I miss this kind of banter from the old NCFFB. Now we call it the "morgue board".

I've gotten close enough to get a good look at the Putah beavers. There must be something in the water that makes them lose a lot of their teeth. They've got more fur than other beavers too. I think we should include in our PCT plan indigenous beaver removal and relocation, but that's just me.

Thanks guys for playing - oh no, I think I hear a domestic beaver in the house! Better check and see what's going on. Yep. Looking for wood too. Oh no, all I have is empty beers! Better hide in the garage until it goes away! Bad beaver! Shoo! Go take a bath or something.

Nice Alastair!

I'm tempted to bring my four weight and force myself to try dries. I wouldn't be surprised if these small fish would rise to dries near the banks.

Alastair and I had some more small fish today on the river. I think Alastair's newest small fish may give Bob's tiny Yuba trout a run for its money!

Seeing if the "blue shirt" luck rubs off on you Alastair?

Seems like you and Vince have been getting out a bunch. I'll be back Monday and would love to come along. I bet I'll catch a smaller one.

I think the amount of very small fish being caught out there is very good news indeed.

I just hope you all remember these lil guy's are the future of the creek, and you need to use extreme care getting them back in the water ALIVE.

curmudgeon: I completely agree. I've started to do macro photography on their faces to try to identify particular fish from access five. I am interested in estimating populations with a mark and recapture technique (although the "mark" is simply identify features on their face). So if you catch small fish from access five, take a good photo of their face and we can ensure that certain fish survive!
