Weekend Jeep Trip
Permalink

For father's day my dad wants to do a trip with my brother and I.  He wants to take the Jeep out and 4x4 into a lake or near a stream where we could camp out of the back.  Does anyone have any suggestions of places we could do this?  We wouldn't have to be able to drive right to the lake/stream, but if we could find a central point within a days hike of some fishing that would work to.

Check out Ice House Res area off HWY 50, lots of fire roads, lakes and streams. Also there could be good fishing found off the Rubicon trail, also near Tahoe. Sounds like a fun weekend.

JOM32, also consider checking out the Eagle Lakes region off of Hwy 80. And, Bowman Lake Road area off of Hwy 20, near Hwy 80 (10 miles from Nevada City). In addition, there's Gold Lakes Road off of HWY 49 above Sierra City and Bassets (NF Yuba River). Lots of prospects at each location for what you are looking to do. An Internet search of each will provide lots of info, maps, etc. Pretty country all around.

Tight Lines....

Thanks for the replies.  I'll check some of these areas out and figure out where to go.

Barney Riley trail South of Lake Tahoe is another option.  It ends at a natural  hot spring located o n the bank of the Carson River.

My favorite place to motofish is along Henness Pass Road. There is a little lake in the area that holds a few brownies, Milton. Independence lake has lahontans, but is best fished with a boat. You should check out fly fishing the Sierra Nevada by Bill Sutherland or Fly Fishing the Tahoe Region by Stephen Rider Haggard.

Never mind that question.  I found a decent map online and got myself orientated.
