For those of you that head to Putah from the East... the Winters PD is really hitting speeders hard on 128 heading East. I was out last week with a first time fly fisher (damn high flows skunked us) and she got a speeding ticket coming out of Winters 14 mph over the limit. Today I was heading back home (one hooked, none landed) and saw TWO traffic stops in a 2 minute span of each other. Beware!!
Looked like someone had a BBQ at access #5, deep into where the larger fork turns to smooth slower water. Easy to tell from the lighter fluid tin, meat wrappers, charcol bag and metal grate they left there... at least it didn't end in a forest fire. I had my hands full with the paper trash - maybe someone can grab that metal grate next time they are out there.
Vince, I'm not surprised that Winters PD is out getting tickets. Many small towns are aggressive for nabbing speeders once they cross into their city limits. Speeding is a safety issue and revenue maker (choose which one makes sense for the town's priorities). This coming Memorial Day weekend, the Winters PD will be out in force.
Wheatland, on highway 65, is also aggressive on speeders.
I saw no less than 5 CHP on the HYW 70 along the Feather this weekend. The we're fishing too in their own way. Their pattern of choice, the illusion of empty remoteness, at 50 MPH.
