Hi , I'm pretty new to fly fishing so I'll try to be as clear as I can. Tell me everything you know about fly fishing! Just kidding. I have the day off tommorow and I am going the creek. Should I be out there earlymorning, mid-day or early evening? A location suggestion or two would be nice but I wont push it with my first post.
The first thing you should look at for any creek or river you are fishing is the flow chart. The flows on Putah have dropped from around 600 cfs to 275 in about five days. That means that the fish are moving around looking for food. Not a good time to fish. Flows are more important than bugs. Steady flows at any time of the year are good on Putah. This time of year the hatch is a red brassie! I suggest you take the class with Bono and Steve, high flow fishing can be much better and more fun than fishing the low flows if you know how to fish the creek.
Maybe you should fish from sun up to sun down then you can form your own opinion on when its best to fish. Or just listen to Otter he always out fishes me.
Im bit on the lazy side and early for me is anything before noon....
I go with what the weathers doing...really cold out , fish water with sun on it and a bit on the shallow side or lower on the creek...Hot out...fish deeper water or well shaded runs or closer to the tail water cause its a few degrees colder....Good mid temp day ,fish any where.... Thats how I roll..
