Does anyone here ff for halibut in S.F. Bay area? There was some discussion about it a year or so ago either here or on another board. It's that time of year again and sounds like a lot of fun. Please shoot me a pm or post if your interested or if you know where the heck to go. Thank you, Paul
P.S. Not interested in wading in shark infested waters!!
Check out the forums at www.norcalkayakanglers.com. I am not sure you'll find a place to wade for Halibut, but the folks on the norcal forum might be able to find a place where you could work off a pier and of course a kayak. Good luck.
The california halibut, Not to be confused with the pacific halibut one may see on those alaska pics. is a fine gamefish that in my opinion is not going to be properly pursude without a boat. Southhampton shoal, red rock, berkely flats, alameda rockwall, those are a few hotspots that will produce throughout the summmer. If I was to float tube or kayake it would be in the cove behind berklely marina with streamers. Good luck, there out there right now, Its also prime time for sriped bass in the bay, The flats near the sisters islands on the marin side of san pablo bay is prime striper stuff as well as the brothers if you can get the drift right. Whatever you do, Do not anchor, you must drift fish ! let me know if you need more, i can guarentee there is nobody on this site that know stripers and halibut like I do.
Thank you Shon and SCM, I have been avoiding a kayak purchase but may take the plunge for this reason. Will check out the web site. Shon, Will send a PM. Paul
