As promised here is the background information on the Paiute cutthroat trout restoration project proposed by DFG. I would encourage all of you to study the issue and make a decision regarding whether your clubs can support the action. Please feel free to also share this with your individual members so they can also make an informed decision on whether or not to support the DFG proposal. The comment period ends May 4th.

DFG Paiute Cutthroat Trout Restoration Project The DFG is asking for letters of support for the proposed Paiute Cutthroat Trout Restoration project on Silver King Creek. Specifically the DFG is asking for letters of support endorsing Alternative 2, which entails eradicating non-native trout below Llewellyn Falls using rotenone. The details of the proposed treatment plan can be found on pages 37 45 of the draft EIS/EIR that is in comment period now. The document can be found at
Ted Williams, Conservation writer for Fly Rod and Reel Magazine has written extensively on the Paiute cutthroat project and other western native trout restoration issues. I would encourage you to read his articles on the Paiute Cutthroat to learn more about the background of the project.
The DFG is asking for letters of support from both clubs and individuals. DFG is asking supporters to write a letter of support in favor Alternative 2 in the EIS/EIR and to voice their support for returning the Paiute to its native home.
