I just wanted to briefly pass along information to all on some current events with Putah Creek Trout. I assume everyone is aware that submittal has been made to DF & G proposing wild trout status for Putah Creek. Year round catch and release with barbless, artificial fly or lure is the proposal. With the discontiuation of stocking at Putah, this is seen as necessary in order to preserve/ improve the existing wild trout fishery.
The organization has submitted for tax exempt 501c(3) status. A pro bono relationship has been established with both a legal as well as an accounting firm to assist our efforts in this arena. JL and Lahontan established these relationships for the group.
Steve Karr will get out the details shortly on an upcoming wine tasting fundraiser that I believe will be in the Alexander Valley.
Putah Creek Trout had an informational booth at Kiene's Fly Fishing Expo this past Saturday. It was great exposure for our cause and many good industry contacts were established at this event. We were able to communicate with many fly fishers and get a lot of signatures backing the wild trout submission for Putah Creek. It was great just to be able to get the word out on our efforts and make the fly fishing community aware that something is happening to improve Putah.
Stve Karr made a presentation to the Davis Fly Fishers this past month regarding the desires of our group. SO the word is getting out. Steve Karr(SK60) has put an enormous amount of personal time into the launching of our efforts and should be applauded for what he has done. Here are a couple of photos from the Kiene's show, and also of James Haan's (Blackcloud) displayed artwork next to our booth. Look at the picture and see what Steve put together for the Putah Creek Trout tabletop at Kiene's show. It was very impressive and professional.

Good work guys looks awesome. The wine tasting event is actually going to be at my tasting room here in Healdsburg. The date for the event is June 13 (sat) It is going to be 10$ at the door. The event is going to run from 1:00-5:00 or so. I will be here all day and the doors open at 11:00 so if you are early no problem. We are going to have a silent auction with wine as well as some fishing items. The bocce court will be up and running as well as some other fun games and chances to win prizes. We will keep you updated. I wanted to say also that even if you don't drink there will still be plenty of opportunities for you to help us out. Thanks, Cole

Special thanks go to Ed (Lahontan), Jerry (JL), Bob (1Weight), James (Black Cloud, Master carver extraordinaire) Bono and Rick L for sitting table during the heat and retelling our story many, many times. As Bob indicated, this was our first "public appearance" and the "kickoff" for a number of our activities.
We have filed a recommendation for a regulation change to the Fish and Game Commision requesting year around C/R to preserve the quality of the fishery. With the "no plant" decision from DFG, this years population will be under additional stress starting next weekend. We will be asking for your support of the changes through signing petitions or letters of support through this forum. We have a few months before these should be submitted and more months before a FGC decision, so we will keep you updated. Napa Valley Fly Fishers just approached us about promoting C/R this season with signage-each of you can promote it when you come across those that are keeping fish-a simple explanation or reminder that the fish in the creek are not being replaced for a year or more-nothing more.
Re: the fund raiser-thanks go to Cole (CJ) and Davis Family Vineyards for hosting. We will have a number of items for silent auction, including guided trips on local Northern California waters, some of them by driftboat, rods, reels, hand tied PC patternn flies, as well as quality wines, art, and a drawing for a great trout carving by Black Cloud-its the one in the 3rd picture.
Volunteers: we will still need you going forward. You don't need to join the organization; if interested in volunteering send an email to the address below.

I echo 1Weight's sentiment; Steve - you're doing a hell of a job. Thanks for working so hard at this. You're enabling the rest of us to have an impact.
The group would not have made nearly as much progress without your efforts!
Lots of important folks in the fly fishing community learned more about us at the expo, and we're picking up momentum.
We're working on the venue for our next meeting, where among other things we'll discuss what we're planning to do in addition to the regs changes we've got in progress. Once we have a firm definition of our plans, we can start raising some real $$$.
I am an infrequent poster, but just wanted to say this sounds like tremendous progress!! I visited Putah Easter Sunday - no trout, just rattlesnakes!!
Here is an additional idea for fundraising which I am passing along from the folks at SYRCL that have done similar work to save the Yuba.
For Yuba fans who are interested in keeping the Yuba a great place to fish, and do some good to keep the water flowing, promote fish growth and salmon spawning, there is an upcoming event and silent auction, http://www.yubaauction.org/on May 30, Miners Foundry in Nevada City.
Perhaps down the road, PCT could have similar activities to raise funds and awareness.
Thanks FlyNGo, great ideas! We are holding a winetasting FR in June, so we might be able to use some of them ourselves. We will be advertising the event here soon.
I live in trout purgatory, near Santa Cruz, so getting to trout always starts with a drive of no less than 2.5 or 3 hrs. I started watching this little board to learn about Putah and see if I should give it a try. I'll get there sooner or later, probably this fall when the weather is cooling and the fishing is heating up...
The dedication of the small number of you who really take part is impressive to say the least and I'll try to find a way to support your group, even if it's just buying a hat or whatever. The changes you seek for regs, etc are dead on and should happen. GOOD LUCK!
