Have hit the Yooba several times in the past few weeks. The fishing has been fun! Found the Yuba expert MX 19 on the river and he showed me a few good spots. He was catching all the fish, and I started throwing rocks at him and in the areas he was fishing. After that I finally caught a fish.
That was funny Emerger and One Weight!! Just so some of you who don't know I would never throw rocks at people. It is just great to fish with MX 19. I think he talks to the fish more than I do!! He has great knowledge of Putah, the feather, the Yuba, and the lower sac. He get's daily reports of where to fish and what flies to use. I suggest that all of you take up the offer to be guided on the feather for next to nothing, the spring steelies are in there. MX 19 maybe you should have a class on the Yuba. It sure helped me today. There were like 20 cars under the bridge today and nobody was fishing where we were.
Fished the yuba last friday, a couple fish to hand between me and a friend, with a couple more LDR's. Pretty nice caddis hatches in the afternoon, but unfortunately, only found one spot where there were fish feeding on them, which is odd. Everyone we talked to was either skunked or had one. Water was extremely cold, it felt even colder than a couple weeks ago (trust me, how far my "compadres" invert up into my stomach while wet-wadding acts as a great temperature gauge).
I read a decent report from a a couple guys drifting the river on sunday, so maybe the warmer temps and more consistent hatches are turning on the fish (it will be interesting to see what the colder weather for-casted for the end of the week will do). Also, its sucker spawning time, if your lucky, or unlucky enough to hook one of these smelly creatures, do the river and coyotes a favor and......well, you get the idea.

I fished the Yuba right after the flows went from 900 to 1600 and almost got swept downstream - that was fun.
Anyway, hit it hard for 5 or 6 hours, and only the late afternoon was productive. But I don't think that was it. I found fish in a few spots and once I found them it was lights out.
MX - I got a couple hatchery steelies. Not huge - 23, 24 inches, but explosive and fun.
