First Accidental Steelhead Lower Lower Sac

Been wade fishing just north of Red Bluff.  Any seam between fast and slow, any medium speed run 2-4 feet, superfloss, tungsten head skwala (not listed anywhere, but they love it), golden stone, any beaded soft hackle,  Amber Prince, Micro Mays.  Have to make sure you get it down to the bottom.  More weight than you think. Average 3-6 big beautiful 15-20 inch rainbows from 7AM till 11:30AM when I have to beat it home.  I hear it gets better in the evenings but never get to fish then.
I got fairly good on the dead drift fishing Putah and it has paid off.  So much easier to catch big fish on the Lower Sac. I've lost a total of like 7 flies in 10 trips! At Putah I decorated the trees with all the bead heads I'd lose.  Sac is wide open. For me it's worth the drive. I usually have the river all to myself.  Several holes produce every time.  I have not been skunked in 10 trips since October.  3 weeks ago at Anderson River Park, first drift, 17 inches.  second drift, 16 inches, third drift, nothing, what a disappointment.  Fourth drift 15 inches.  I should have left right then.  Fished another 2 hours for two more great big trout.
Two weeks ago, I caught my first steelhead.  First time I actually got tired holding the rod up waiting for the fish to tire.  Took me way into the backing.  He was less than 2 feet, but his girth was unbelievable.  Caught him on that big superfloss rubber leg, plain brown.  Otter, beaver, golden eagle, osprey, dear, golden eagle.  Beautiful.  Meaningful Easter to all.
