It's real pretty in the Sierra foothils right now....lots of golds and oranges happening...
Fished the "secret river" (lower Kings ..hardly a secret) Weds and Thurs in the middle of the day...landed several nice fish, kinda 1.5 - 2 lbs. They are like cookie cutter planters only bigger. Got 1 to hand really worth a pic.
Wild fish are the best, but planters like these are a pretty fair substitute.
Hi, Mike! Yeah, those poppies are painting the hills with vibrant spring color. My family from Hawaii spent the day Friday driving up to Yosemite and captured some phenomenal pics along the hillsides of Hwy 140 around Midpines.
Are they still planting broodstock on the LK?

FD...I don't think broodstock, exactly, but they do plant big fish...up to about 8 lbs I believe. Flows went from 170 to 850 today so they'll be off the bite for a few days til they find new holding spots and settle in....unless the flows are going straight to 4000...then it's just over...-Mike
Atta Boy Stlhr! Good to see someone hitting the Kings. Have you heard anything lately about the seven mile section up to Garnet Dike on the Kings above Pine Flat Res. Used to always head up there in April and camp along the river when I lived further down south. We would tear 'em up on big Stonefly nymphs and sometimes giant dry Stims during the early stonefly hatch. Long drive from Marin now. Looking to get in a week somewhere during mid April. You reminded me of the Kings when I saw your post.
Hey, iFish...it's a long drive for me too, but I try to hit the L Kings 3-4 times each winter...either on the way to/from somewhere or on an overnighter.
