I am considering selling a putah creek sampler assortment of flies to be available from this site. Maybe 12ea flies of patterns that are working for me,subject to change depending on the success of the flies. I just thought doing this might generate some income to help offset the cost of running this site.I would appreciate any input any of you may have in pursuing my little endevour. Thanks Bono
I dont really fish Putah but I know for sure that if a good guide, on a river that i like to fish, offered to sell me some hot patterns, i would probably be all over it......i'm sure you wouldn't have a hard time selling them here. Granted, the more fish see a pattern the more less likely they are to take the fly, but if you limit the supply, i dont think it will hurt you. I say go for it!

I was thinking the same thing. A fall and spring box. Let me know if you need help advertising them... I'm happy to donate my design skills to keep this site up and running.
I think it's a great idea. Keep the following points in mind:
To make any money, you are going to have to sell quantities. That means you will need significant quantities to get started like a gross of 12 packs.
Will you be tying the flies yourself, or will you outsource them? I'm sure that some of the major suppliers can make custom packaging for you.
What will your avenues to sell your fly sets be? Internet, fly shops, sporting goods, mini marts? If you sell to fly shops, sporting goods, or mini marts, your margin will be significantly less.
On another note to help offset costs, have you tried have any advertising done on your website? Try looking into Google Ads to see if it is compatible with your format. How about trying to get some local shops, Northern California Lodges, or some vendors to advertise on your site? One site that I know of charges $1000 a year to advertise. I don't know what your website budget is, but advertising space can make up a huge chunk of change.
If you do this consider your first 2 sets sold, BUT, Only if they are actually tied by Mr. bonovich. I can ask my flyshop owner if he is interested in stocking some of these sets since they already have a putah creek specific section that needs overhauled.
I know i would be interested. The fly shop i go to has a putah section and i'm certained he would stock them, I'm sure they would be better than what they already have.
after every outing, i stop by The Pardesha store and buy a red bull and a few flies that have worked very well for me, and i belive that these flies were tied by Greg Bonovich. So, ya i'm definetly interested on buying a few sets of 12.
Sorry to hear this, I guess I missed the posts. I would be happy to purchase a set up from you. It is only considered ethical on our part. We get so much out of the forum. BTW, I have bought some in the past at Pardehsa!!!
You should sell them at the canyon store and other close too gas stations and retailers...You have lived in the area for so long you should know everybody...

Yes... at the canyon store he has some singles for sale...But there are a lot of small retail shops that sell tackle in the area that dont sell flies, but they have a few other fly fishing related items,... fly selection takes up room and it scares the retailer cause they dont fly fish and have no idea what catches fish...Kits sell better cause it takes the guess work out of it..It would be cool if he put it all together in a inexpensive fly box with a Bonos guide service header card in it...wouldnt take up much room for the retail shop (gas station, convience store ,etc ) and emerger can help with the promo header card art work....Bono just has to log some hours on the vise and put his shiny suit on and get his saleman groove going.... since one of my shops is retail , I get full of ideas mx19
WOW! I really had no idea that this would generate this much interest, with the exeption of one apparently disturbed individual! I used to sell a small assortment of flies at Pardhesa store but when they changed ownership I stopped, but there may be a few of my old flies there I'm not really sure. Due to the fact that I do tie my own patterns I pretty much dont want to overwhelm myself with having to tie hundreds of flies at a time.So the plan for now is to just sell them through this site and the idea of selling seasonal packages is a good one but due to the fact that it seems for me that the hot patterns change at the blink of an eye I will tie the orders as I recieve them, so that means that the dozen flies probably will constantly change.Beware that some of my flies are totally made up sometimes using ideas from other patterns and combining them and they may be nameless, but they work. In closing I would like to thank you guys for all of the input, ideas and interest and most of all for supporting this site and Putah Creek Trout org. I'm getting a little misty right now so I'm gonna have to go. Bono
Theres a store in winters that has a decent selection of fishing gear, They have some pretty good putah fly's I usually get a few there, The rs2 they sell is one of my favorite flys. I assumed these were Bonos flys but maybe not.
Just what i've been looking for. I wanted one of the fundraiser boxes (maybe these could tie in) and I definately want one from THE MAN.

Hi: you could deal me in for purchasing that sampler. I also think the suggestions you received were good regarding providing a seasonal selection. It's a good idea if it can work out for you financially. I am sure a fishing partner of mine would be game as well.
If you bought the flies from guns n stuff they probably were of cheap metal quality. You should always check where the hooks are coming from- out of the country hooks usually have hook metal inperfections from mixed hook pours. For example some companies melt lead for sinkers and steel for hooks in the same tubs. It only takes a very small amount of a soft metal to weaken a hook. I buy through the fly shop and I am very happy with there hook quality. Mostly made in the USA- really depends on what type of fly it is. Just my 2 sense what you all think???
