I gave the American River a try yesterday. It was my first time on that water. We had takes on Egg sucking leeches, and egg patterns. No fish to hand. I did see 5 landed, one in the tail. I was below the dam (which is a place you could park and keep an eye on your rig while fishing). A couple other guy fly fishing but mostly spinning reel guys. Lots of fish jumping, BIG FISH some 20+ pounds. It was a bit of a show. It rained yesterday and was one of the only fishable waters around. I don't think I would fish it on a nice day on the weekend. It seems to have the potential to get very crazy, but the fish are there. The water looked good a bit off color and flowing nice. If you try it I would suggest, Peach eggs and a shooting head set up. Fish were lying close to where it drops off and lots of guys were casting over them. If you live in the area and have kids it would be fun to take them out and see some of the action.
Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
some day mx ill be out on the coastal rivers, but not anytime soon, to far to drive. well shoot maybe ill hit up the lower sac. who knows.
