There is only one solution for this whole problem of having your best spot revealed on the internet. Everyone, its time to start lying. Back when word of mouth used to be the internet, people would lie about the size and type of fish they caught, and the methods they used until finally no one believed anything anyone else said, and then we could all talk about fishing. Last week I fished Putah while Bungi jumping from the dam...best spot I've ever fished! I caught eight in the 30 plus range by using a size 2 zoo cougar, and a small minnow bucket for an indicator.
What I want to know is who are these people who actually trust information from the internet?
Its really funny actually. I run into the exact same problem on my local boards here in Minnesota. Guess how many anglers I saw on the water during my 25 + local outings last year? 4. Total. I guess not giving acurate online reports works so well that now nobody even fly fishes, and the same idiots who complain about posting stream names are the ones who are frustrated when the local fly shops close. The question becomes one of whether there are too many anglers, or too few. I think we all know that there would be about 1% of the trout that we now have if it wasn't for the anglers feeding money and political support into habitat restoration and stocking programs. A robust and healthy online community is a tool for sharing ideas about fishing, and our stories and experiences. I'm pretty sure it is no secret that the Lower Stanislaus has fish in it. Heck even I know that and I live 3000 miles away. I think it is every anglers right to not share his favorite spots. I also think its every anglers right to be able to tell his story as accurately as he wants without being harassed.
I guess all I have to say is that I am fairly sure you don't see people is probably because of the state you live in Psyfisher. I have been fishing the lower stan for the past seven or eight years and have never seen much traffic. This year there are people everywhere even during the week. Two magazines have posted articles in the last year and several people have posted on all the websites. I am not complaining as I have had a banner year on the Stan. Can't even count the number of fish landed. The size of the fish have also been better than ever. It is what it is. My only tip is to make sure you talk to the nearest flyfisher to make sure you are not invading water. This river is California at its best. Just make sure you don't ruin somebody else's day!
Psyfisher, What color bucket you using? I'd add that I use a flip-flop for a weight as well, being Putah and all, I feel it's a more natural flotsam in the flow.
I should just stay out of it but I can't help myself. I love reports of flows, clairity, and action. I also enjoy seeing pics or peoples successes. I have posted some resently. Not to show off but to get folks excited about fishing. I guess what I am saying is keep fishing and reporting but maybe PM some of the real dirt. I don't mean to offend anyone and if I did. Go Fish.

Its flowing at 687 and with the warm weather forecast will continue to rise over the weekend, that would be just a guess. Fishing might be kinda tough with those flows, But hell ya don't know if you don't go. Good luck.
Fished the Lower Stani on Saturday and flows were way up, high as i've ever seen it but i've only been fishing there for the last 8 months. The bite was better than I expected, caught about a half dozen mostly 8-10 inches but a couple 12-14 inch fish to hand, one a beautiful native with some bright pink and purple color. Most came on an olive micro may dropper and they were hammering the san juan worm in the upper column as well. Needed 3 split shot to account for the high flows. Also, found the fish in some newer holes since my usual spots were blown out with the high and fast water. There were bugs coming off almost all day, but didn't see a single fish feeding on top. Looked like March browns and PMD's coming off. All in all, a fun and hot day!
The flows at Orange Blossom are near 1000 right now. That is really kicking. I'm not sure I've ever fished it at that level. Probably makes for some difficult times.
I wonder if you can even cross the river at two-mile now.
