Ive been reading a lot of posts of people catching steelhead and am just wondering why when someones talks about there catch its always measured in inches and not pounds? Im from Washington and if someone asks how big the steelhead I caught was it will always be in pounds. For example I caught 5 steelies the smallest was 6lbs the largest 15lbs. I just read a post that said they got a bunch of steelies between 22-24 inches on average how many pounds would a 22 inch fish be. Im just trying to get a grasp on how big these steelhead are that people are catching.
Those are what guys usually call "halfpounders" and 22-24" fish are usually in the 4-6lb range. A 6lb would be a real football. I think alot of the guys on the board are mostly trout fishermen which is why they measure their fish in inches. When you catch a fish that tops 30 it kind of becomes a moot point!

that was a good one mx19. but you got it wrong its 10 seconds and all i need to see is a shadow.
but on the latter note, because most of us are trout guys like chuck said, thats why we measure everything in inches and not pounds. its much easier to measure or guess inches than pounds. i used to be good at measuring lbs when i was a big bass fisherman, i used to do a lot of pro ams back in upstate new york, but that was over 10yrs ago. but know that i dont do that anymore, kinda tough.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
