In the latest issue of California FlyFisher I saw a full page ad for a new hook/fly arrangement called the Moffitt Angling System.  Basically, the system is comprised of a hookless fly looped above a bare circle hook.  The promotional video demonstrates the system works, but I am wondering if this is something that will be widley adopted by fly anglers? Moreover, would this be legal to fish in CA?

I looked at it, and it seems to be a snagging setup since the hook sets outside of the mouth.  I don't think it would be considered legal here in California if someone decided to present this in a court of law.

Th Moffitt System was already the topic of conversation on another web site. It not only does not appear to be legal, but it also causes serious problems to gills and eyes.

The article I read said it is suppossed to nearly eliminate eye hooked fish. They feel outside the mouth is less sensitive and there is a lesser chance of mortally deep throat hooking a fish. I have been watching this thing for a bit, I still haven't made up my mind.I sort of feel like I don't want my favorite pasttime revolutionized. I mean, how many people swear by bamboo in the face of all the modern blank making technology?
