Reporting suspicious activity

Forum Members:

One of the goals of PCT is to improve enforcement of and compliance with regulations on Putah and are working with DFG Enforcement to that end. A year ago a link was put on this site titled "Report Suspicious Activity on Putah Creek" to facilitate reports of regulation violations. Members of the forum were strongly encouraged to report violations or other suspicious activity by completing the online form.

There have been a total of 10 posts about what a great idea it was, and close to 1800 views of the topic. But Keith reports only two responses   were completed during the year. Does this mean there were so few violations witnessed on the creek in that time?

DFG has expressed a strong interest in getting our help to evaluate the problem, if it truly exists. They will take your confidential responses and create a database to measure the extent of the problem-they can then develop an action plan if the situation warrants it.

They listed some reportable items they are particularly interested in seeing:

·        Chronic violators and violations (same guys and type of violations)

·        Take pictures of vehicles making note of dates, times, and area

·        Any snagging, make note of date and times

The online form contains boxes to fill in this information. Please provide as much of your contact info as you are comfortable with-it will be held confidentially-and whether or not you can be contacted for more detail.
And, most importantly, please report what you see!

Wondering if it makes sense that a representative on PCT approached the manager/owner of the Canyon Creek Camp Ground with a poster type notice that could be made visible to arriving campers that lists the DFG regulations for Putah creek. Hopefully this would help to reduce the taking of fish during the no limit period.

that would be the most sensible thing since a lot of those people don't know the regs. is there any way that the managers could get fined if their campers break regs. that would make them enforce the regs a little more.

I think we should work around creating any ill will between the camp ground ownership and those of us that fish the creek so putting them on the hot seat might not be a good idea. Rather, if there was a poster and more idealy a handout that PCT could provide to be given to campers as they check in informing them of the DFG regs might go a long way in providing information about fishing Putah.

The manager there that also patrols the grounds tells their members they can't fish with bait (or keep the fish) when he sees them. The potential violators I have seen are not members of the resort, nor were they on resort property. The usual combination that brings most of them out seems to be nice weather in the new year and the itch to dunk some bait after a few months of special regs. From now until the regular season opener, expect the numbers to increase.

We are working on literature to distribute to businesses in the area.

I can say that I have on a few occasions personaly seen the guy in the golf cart informing people of the regs. Really its the guys fishing from the bridge down to the staircase that are up to no good knowingly.
