Hey everyone, I know that this is a fly fishing forum but i want to know if anyone has any information on the nearest place to go bow fishing in the bay area, preferably for carp. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks, Bob
I haven't been down there much in the last few years but there used to be massive amounts of HUGE carp in lower putah below solano diversion dam, the further down the more there used to be, Espacially around the stevensons bridge near dixon. I bet theres alot even further down the creek as the water warms. Pvt. property seems to have made accessing the lower creek a bit tougher these days. Theres also these really freakishly large spiders down there to, If anyone has ever seen one you know what I'm talkin about. What do you do with a bunch of dead carp ? I don't think I would even eat one, Bury them in the garden ? They do overpopulate so it would probably be a good thing to take few.
Another place that I haven't seen mentioned is Joyce Island though I don't know what access is like. There used to be hundereds of them in every little ditch with water. I imagine it hasen't changed much.

I know that there are a bunch of big carp in between the highways in walnut creek near the Sun Valley Mall in concord. I know that you can catch these carp on a fly but im not sure if you can get these guys with a bow. i bet that someone else on the board will know if it is legal or not.

Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.
I don't know about the legality, but since carp aren't exactly the most loved fish, I will tell you I've seen plenty of hugh carp wallowing along the banks of the laguna which runs from south of Sebastopol North to the Russian River.
Haven't experienced this at this time of year though.
Water is shallow 3-6 ft. and the water quality is good in the summer and varies in the winter.
Good luck.

Wet and wild!
It is funny how many people consider carp to be such a trash fish. After hunting and catching one on a fly my picture of them changed completely.
Fishing for them is not much different then stalking bone fish on the flats. They are finicky, spook easily, can be found tailing in shallow flats, and are a complete blast when you hook them.
It is one thing to bow hunt a fish you plan to keep for food. Killing them just for fun seems wastefull.
If you are into fishing give the carp a shot on a fly rod. Target them in shallow water with an indicator and a prince nymph. It may take a bit to figure them out but once you do it is a real kick in the pants.
