Planing a Trip...

Hey Guys. I want to plan a fishing trip but can't figure out where to go. I'd like about a day's hike in, to a fishable river where camping is permitted. Preferrably somewhere pretty remote. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm thinking the Sierras. Thanks for any advice or past expiriences you may be willing to share.

When are you planning on going? Wait until Summer and hit any small creek in Yosemite, you will catch fish all day long.

Depending on the snow we get this winter alot of those freestones may not be fishable until late june. my personal favorite is the mammoth lakes area on the sierra's eastern slope, Theres ALOT of different waters to fish in a small area.

Dispersed camping is allowed on USFS land.  Spend some time looking at maps and reading various bb Sierra trip reports.  You have months to plan.

Near the Mono Hot Springs area is amazing. Doris lake is especially nice for fly fishing. there are roughly 6 large lakes in the area and hundreds of smaller bodies of water and streams. See the google link below for a map of the area. The Mono resort is nice for the last nite before you head back home. I frequent this area for backpacking. If you want pics lemme know. Pick up a permit from the ranger station on the way up before you hit Kaiser Pass and it lets you camp an build a fire anywhere in the national forest (you can park your vehicle off the road and set up your tent literally anywhere you want and it's perfectly legal). Only thing is, how far you actually get past Mono Hot Springs area depends on your vehicle clearance. All the good places require 4x4 or be prepared for a day hike each way. Expect to cover no more than 6-8 miles every hour for this area by vehicle.

My Avatar is a pic of the river. Popular activities are boating on the large lakes, backpacking, fly fishing, tubing down the river but it depends on the area you are visiting.

I usually drive a couple miles past the resort and hike in at Bear Creek. It's about a 9 mile hike to the lakes near devils peak from Bear Dam. I've gone backpacking through there and my buddy and I didn't see another person for 10 days.
