Great dry-fly area, and a lot mire scenic (it can be a special place at times)........ill give it that....just currently not a lot of hatches going on right now.
Ive fished from way up into the canyon, all the way to marysville bridge, and I just think, comparitiviely speaking, the water above the bridge isn't any better than the water below the bridge, I think most of the best holes on the river are below the bridge, hence why i think it is "overated" people always make a big deal about. Then again, I have a buddy that loves it above the bridge, so really, just a matter of opinion, based upon my own experience/preference.
As far as fishing goes, Ive been going a decent amount (below the bridge (there's been good days and bad days, as far as timing it goes, I have yet to figure it out this past month, kindof wierd really. (not sure why the font is so big, cant seem to fix it?)

My big complaint with the Yuba besides the large number of people that fish it on any given day, is having those people camp out in a single spot on the river (literally within a 10 foot radius) for hours on end.
I don't know about now, as I havn't fished the Yuba in years, but the difference between above the bridge and below the bridge was night and day.
You used to fish "....way up into the canyon...." Until you hit the actual narrows, it's some aweful slow and deep water with near vertical sides in many places. At a slow drift it is about an hour to Leo's old trailer.

Slow and deep isn't a bad thing out of a drift boat....fortunately I have a good friend that belongs to the club up that way.... As far as it being night and day below and above the bridge, i guess everyone has their preferences, but I can tell you after snorkeling the river a few times, i've seen a lot more concentrated numbers of fish in holes below the bridge.
yeah, 30 people lined up stationary in their holes is probably another reason why i prefer down river.

I just started fishing the Yuba the last year or two and it is one of my favorite rivers. There is definitely less of a crowd further down stream, but when you do run into someone they tend to stay awhile. I know I do it myself a lot of times. The problem is that some of the good holes are spaced pretty far. The fish in the Y make everything worth it though.
One of my favorite times to fish the Lower Yuba is Shad season. I take a ride in the bossman's jetboat from Marysville to just below Daguerre Point. The bossman loves fishing for Shad, but he hates to fish alone. Yep, it's fun fishing for Shad, but I always have a rod rigged up for trout in the boat. That run where Brian hooked into a Salmon last summer traditionally holds a lot of big fish.
actually i hooked that salmon this yr, and that run is sick. i am guessing you know the run that has the old dead tree in the middle of it. great run. and deep at the end of it.
