Simms warranty question.

Was curious if anyone has tried to warranty a pair of simms boots because the felt sole came off ? My entire felt just peeled off yesterday and the boots are only about 7 or 8 months old ! the laces also broke yesterday, Geeez 2 problems in one day ! I'm less then impressed to say the least. My cheap 50 dollar hodgmans lasted longer.

I haven't had to deal with Simms since I am a Patagonia diehard, but I know people who have had to deal with Simms.

Simms warranties its boots for the life of the product.  There is some latitude in that meaning.  For casual fly fishers, that could be a few years.  For someone who fishes a lot like a guide, that could be a year.  Simms will look for excessive wear.  If the boots look like they haven't been abused, Simms will honor its warranty.

Most likely your local shop will send the boots to Simms and let it make the decision.

By the way, did you leave your boots in your car during a hot day?  Excessive heat denatures the glue.

Good luck,
AB

That's wierd, what boots were they?  I just got the Riversheds and I'm pretty stoked on them but not if they are going to fall apart.  I just had to retire the guide boots after 4 full seasons of nonstop usage.  I'm sure you do this too, but I am pretty religious about pressure hosing my felt soles after every use.  Dirt and small pebbles will cut the life of those babies in half.

Cole there the simms keens. I guess theres a price to pay for fishing alot. Like mx19 said, I'll just deal with it. I guess nobody can accuse me of not fishing enough, And thats a good thing, When i think of the number of days I've fished this year its just insane.

Shon I had a pair of Simms wet wading neoprene socks I had problems with.  They paid the shipping on both ends and replaced them with a brand new pair.  I would just email them and explain what happened, they will hook you up.  I have a pair of their L2 wading boots and Freestone's and they are both great.  I also have some of their clothing and all of it has been great.

Isn't the Simms Keen a wading sandal? If that is the case, I'm not surprised that happened. You may want to consider a boot with glued and stitched felt soles. If you want to stick with Simms, forget the Freestone since it ways a ton. Get the L2 instead. If you want the lightest boot on the market, take a look at the Patagonia Riverwalkers.

The Keen model name threw me, since Simms has a wading sandal made by Keen. It looks like the boots incorporates the same midsole and outsole as the sandals. I used to sell Keen footwear when I was in the sporting goods biz. If Simms warranties the product, see if it will let you do an upgrade. As much fishing as you do, I'd think you'd be better off with at least an L2.

Dropped my boots off today at the flyshop, The owner said they'll replace them, Thats cool. But heres the really cool part, He told me they need to be cleaned, They are not clean right now, they were pretty dirty. So the guy says he'll wash em off and send em in for me, Then he gave me a pair of his own personal boots as loaners. Ya see, thats why you should shop at small local flyshops, The big box stores like the bass pro shops and the cabelas of the world would never ever step up and give customer service like this ! Support the small shops guys, they need it ! This particular shop is creative sports in pleasant hill a great little shop with awesome people......Abelboy, I would possibly upgrade, just one problem, When I went out back today to check on the money tree there just wasn't much growing on it rofl.gif.  Thanx for all the input guys.

Shon,
If you need to get a little extra money for an upgrade, you can work as the hired help at a cougar convention.... I mean women's seminar.  laughing.gif

Just a thought--Would you get this type of service buying from an Oregon shop to save money on shipping and sales tax?!

At the time of purchasing one rod from Oregon, yeah--thought I was saving money....I've found that purchasing from an Oregon shop doesn't pay in the long run...Glad to read about supporting local shops!

I'm happy to report that simms stepped up big time, Sent me a brand new pair of boots, Since they no longer make my old ones they sent me some others that are pretty sweet, and only had to pay 8 bucks shipping. New ones are the simms rivershed felt bottom. Looks like a pretty nice boot and they were even a bit more expensive then the old ones. Thats how you keep people buying your product !
