Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Was out today. Fished on the Canyon Creek resort area on the resort side from the lower riffles to the dam area for only one rise.
Saw about eight total fly guys and about four bait guys.
Two guys drifting the riffles just down stream of the bridge caught at least one each and a father son duo caught the same.
Saw a bunch of cruisers and a lot of rises, but no takers for me. Floated everything I had just about from a size 20 HEN, Micro midges, mayfly's, some drys in the slower pools and some soft haclkes in the film.
As of last night the flows were about 51 cfm and it shows. Rocks exposed everywhere, but the good thing is you can identify all of the channels that you wouldn't see with high water.
Brian I am not sure if you could successfully float the dam area right now. I think the channels are too small and the weed mats are ridiculous.
On a side note I did encounter some fellow fly fisherman that ddn't seem to be...well let me just say their responses gave me the impression they thought I was bringing down the land value by talking to them. One of them had a two real nice chest packs though...from Orvis I think.
It was awesome to get out and drown some flies and even though I am like 4 for 10 with Putah there is something about it that I just can't shake.
Brian, What time are you planning on heading out wednesday? I have the day off but won't be available til around 1pm.
shaun was that you that he talked to. you crazy basterd. anyways sehoner, dont know if i am hitting it tues or weds, if i do hit it on weds i am a early riser, and fish hard all day, unless i am just catching a big 0, depending on the weather, which it looks like colder on tues and warmer on weds, more than likely ill be fishing the AR tues because of the colder weather and putah on weds. if i am out there ill either be in a lifted white jeep wrangler, or a dark green honda civic. depends on if i want to bring my pontoon. we shall see.

I spent the morning out on Friday. Arrived at daybreak and (to my absolute surprise) had the bridge area to myself for an hour or so. Must have been my day, as I took 6 nice natives by Noon (the largest about 13 inches), though I lost the most promising take due to some very sloppy technique.
Small dark midge patterns were the favorite...most luck in the less popular spots and in some pocket water. It is amazing how now nice a weekday trip can be. Much nicer than the weekend zoo.
I expect that the big fish have not yet moved up..but there certainly seemed to be a lot of redds. Heads up for your wading.
I didn't have any luck up there, The other guy got an extremely fat 18 or 19 incher after you left. She looked ready to burst ! We could see huge fish cruising but just couldn't get em. Seemed to be much better fishing earlier in the morning.
Well at least someone got something. I am going to try and make it back up there within the next few weeks. It's a great watershed even if you don't catch anything. Besides I might as well get some use out of the membership.
Looking back I realize the amount of pressure Putah gets. There were five people fishing one 100' stretch of water and I always see at least four people near the bridge.

Sehoner, Its a fishpond pack, not a orvis.

I would be grumpy too if I saw some "new guy" fishing in my spot.
