right now is tough for drifting, its closed from hazel to ancil, not gonna tell my secrets out loud right now, dont need my spots to be loaded next time i go out, but i have a buddy that helps me out, i park upstream, then he comes and picks me up later on when i am done, if he cant do it, i just park and walk instead of drift. i did it on tues and it was fun, i only hooked on fish, but it was a big one, and it was straight hollywood style. i was watching this run because its a big fast one, figuring out how i want to row down it, then i started to see them move out so off i went, i had people all over watching me it was great, got a lil wet too, it was like a water slid rid. well i got down the run and parked it at my fishing spot, got out, the guys fishing asked how i did, while i was undoing my flys, so i was telling them how i was doing as well as what i was using, then casted out, first cast i got hammered and it was no small fish, i wasnt paying attention cuz i was talking to those guys so i didnt get a good hook set, i got to see the fish though, nice chrome 5-6lber. as soon as i saw it, it took off and here comes the set up. oh well.
never fished the russian but would like to. last time i heard the mouth hasnt even opened up yet. but again i would love to swing some streamers and nail some steelies. if you dont mind IFISH i would like to take you up on that offer to fish it with you. let me know when and ill try to plan accordingly. i do have everyother sunday off, and every weds and everyother tues. sounds confusing but it fits my fishing schedule great. just let me know. sorry not giving up my secrets yet on the AR, fish are hard to come by right now, so need to keep it hush hush.

Brian, I just read an article in the Press Democrat that the sand bar at Jenner is now open, with the coming of that last storm, plus they dredged. And, so comes the army of seals waiting on the salmon and steelies to come in. Oh well, a few runs still manage to make it through the toothy gaunlet.
Typically, January and February are the prime months to hit the Russian for the larger winter run of chromers. They occassionally start early, though. Have to hook up with Carlo at Western Sport Shop to get the real inside on what's happening on the Russian. He typically keeps a tight lip, but he knows that river better than anyone I know. I'll keep you posted. Then, we'll do a day of swingin' big bushy streamers, if you can get the time. I too can usually do weekdays, since I work from home.
Tried hooking up at the AR last year a few times below Nimbus, across the highway. I swore, I would never go back. It was tag team fly fishing with guys spread throughout that one area where there are "shelves of rock holes" before a big shoot. You know the spot. There were lots of salmon, and lots of steelies around, but man, what a crowd! Made the Putah on a Saturday, look empty. Not my thing to be shoulder to shoulder and ducking someone elses backcasts all day.
I'll PM you as soon as I get a positive word on the Russian. BTW - Here's a awesome pic of the Russian in all its beautiful glory. Though, its not often this empty.
Now, this would be a great place to float a couple of pontoons!
well you hook me up on the russian ill hook you up on the AR this yr
