Napa and Davis Fly Fishers Sponsored Creek Clean Up Day
Permalink

The annual Putah Creek Interdam clean up day is Saturday November 22, 9 am- 12 pm, with a barbecue to follow. It is again sponsored by Napa Flyfishers and Flyfishers of Davis. The gathering point is Access #1  for check in with teams formed and sent out to cover the creek from the dam area to Access #5. If you plan to attend the barbecue, please RSVP to this topic. Putah Creek Trout will also be taking part in this worthwhile effort to get the banks and creek free of garbage, recyclables, and stranded rubber duckies. Waders may be needed to access some areas and tough gloves are also useful.

We hope to see many of you out there.

Steve Karr

Steve, I will also be there. This is a great way for everyone to give back to the creek and put some faces to names on the board. I look forward to meeting  new people this year.

James

I posted this on our Jeep clubs yahoo groups page.  A few years back another member and I pulled a Honda out of the creek.  More recently, during the country wide cleanup, we pulled some other large items, engine blocks and car parts out of a local creek in Vacaville.

Any large items in Putah that I don't know about?

COUNT ME IN!

Thanks for the early heads up this year Steve!  I was able to make this one last year and was really disappointed to miss the two that followed.

It looks like I am good for this one! It did feel good to help.  I was in the water with Brian and Shaun, when Shaun caught "that" nice one. That was a good show.

Looking forward to meeting anyone who can make it.

Ed.

There was big 1980's model microwave, you know... the kind that weigh 50 lbs, down by the water gauge but I fished that out myself nod.gif

Will Definitely be there. Am also on the Boards of the North Bay chapter of Trout Unlimited, and the Mt. Tam Fly Fishers and will spread the word. Our TU chapter also sponsors a Fly Fishing BSA Explorer group called Venture Group 8 and we'll try to get a few sturdy, energetic young folk there as well. Larry Lack

SK60, I cannot make it, will be up on the Trinity that weekend.  If it falls apart I will make it.  Sorry, but usually you can count me in on these events.  Next time.

Ranger AKA Larry Lack . . . a San Rafael High School science teacher???  Has to be the same guy.  I am a SRHS grad, class of 1978.  I still see Gordon Stevens pretty regularly-remember him ( Chemistry teacher)?

I don't use actual chicken livers, but I came up with a fly pattern that looks just like a chicken liver.

not a birthday, but when I "asked" permission hmm to go to the clean up, I was QUICKLY reminded that our 14th wedding anniversary was Wed the 19th.

When I asked what that had to do with the price of oranges in panama, she was equally quick to SPLAIN that if I WANTED hmm to take her to dinner, that would be the night.  hmmm ...

Clean up Saturday, dinner Friday night .... everything is negotiable. Just don't get in trouble with the BOSS! wink

Ya I was "forced" to make her an appointment at Camarillo's on Saturday for a hair cut.

She said it would be "fine" if I wanted to go to the function, but I know what "fine" really means.

So instead I will hang out at home with my son and tie new flies.

Almost as good...better in some ways I guess.

So far so good for me.  This will be my 10th volunteer community/conservation function of the year.

I can make it.  There is also a 1941-6 chevy upside down at access #5
that's been there for years, covered in bullet holes.  It's kind of a landmark
but probably should get yanked out of there anyway.  I think I would miss
it actually.

That is a tough one-it is a landmark of sorts. Maybe the truck tire I saw in the water above Access 1 is part of it.

It looks like the Bonnie and Clyde car. I vote for it to stay.

You couldn't pay me to remove that car.  I have pictures laying around somewhere that were taken of that vehicle back in the late 70's or early 80's.  I'd guess that it has been there a lot longer than that, though it sure would be nice to know some history about it.

If 10 feet of water flowing over the glory hole wasn't enough to move it then it deserves to rest in piece right where it sitssmile

OneWeight - You're right! I retired from teaching Bio at San Rafael HS in '98. Now work at Dominican University supervising student teachers in science. Sorry you can't make it, but so far have recruited 3 others from TU and the Explorer Post we sponsor. Ranger

I was going through some books and ran across the factory shop manual for
the ancient Chevy at #5.  I don't see any future for the monument
either and would be ok for it to remain for future generations to appreciate.

I can't make it, but is there some way to kick in some cash for those who do for any supplies or to help with the food? If I can't be there in person I wouldn't mind supporting in some other way.

Hey Larry Lack!

Yep, it's your Western Sport Shop fellow "flyguy" allumni, Art. Good to see you here. I was going to respond to OneWeight that it was you he was wondering about. You beat me to it.

Trying to get out to the cleanup day, that is, if I'm not in Redding that weekend. Which, I'm scheduled for. We'll see.

How's the gang at the shop? How are you?
