Mikey always comes up with something rather cool that catches fish. His Whopper was my go to hopper pattern for the EC this summer.

that is kickass! I have been trying to think of a way to do an adjustable hopper/dropper forever! The great thing is that this system could be used with any large foam fly like a salmonfly bug or chernobyl ant. I am about to tie a bunch of these!!!!

Does anyone have any experience using this system? I just tied a couple flies to check out how it works and tested the system on 1X leader. The hop-icator locks onto the 1X nicely and seems like it would not slide while casting, but when I gave a good tug on the fly I was able to slide it along the leader. I'm wondering if I might have problems with setting the hook and/or losing fish since there is obviously some play in the system when placed under heavy tension. Either way it is pretty cool and I can't wait to try it out on the river!

How big were your mono loops?  It seems that the fly wouldn't slip as easily if the loops were small.
