I just moved to the Bay Area from Montana and found this forum.

I've been fly fishing for the past 8 years but it's always been dry flies and streamers.

I'm really looking to getting out on Putah Creek in the next couple of weeks and seeing what the creek is about.

If anybody has any advice on what flies to use or where to fish just shoot me a message.

IF IT'S THE FIRST TIME HERE THE BEST THING TO DO IS GET YOUR SELF A GUIDE TO SHOW YOU ALL THE PLACES AND WHAT TO USE COME WINTER THEN, YOU WILL BE FISHING IN NO TIME . OR START TALKING TO PEOPLE FISHING BUT YOU WILL NOT BE NAILING THE BIG ONE TO OFTEN

Hiring a guide sounds like a  good idea, is it expensive?

Greg's rates are on the homepage for this website. I can't say that I used Greg's services, but generally guides will show what, where, why, and how to fish certain stretches of river. From that guided outing, you can take this knowledge to future outings.

Hey Cutthroat!  Welcome.  I agree with Piker!  Bono could definately cut your learning curve down dramatically.   Where, how, and with what are the big questions he'd help you answer.

If that's not an option for you right now, I'd add that if you've got dry and streamer skills with 8 years behind you, your about 20% there.  For Putah, you'll need a KILLER roll cast and some good nymphing skills.

I found that time on the water has been my best teacher. I also find that when I'm away from her too long, it takes me a trip or two to get back in the groove.

It's a good spot that doesn't give up it's secrets easily.  Keep posting, GO FISH, and ask questions ... see what happens.

...and welcome,  Ed.
