Windknots, it was a pleasure to meet you on the water fishing. I owe you an "in" wherever I am fishing and whenever. If you see me, say the word and the hole is yours. Props to you for bushwacking in there and hitting it during medium flows. As for the fishing...it's what I would expect given the time of year. I have been out twice last week and I am jealous of those with schedules which allow them to fish wednesdays.
Tie the fly. Drift the fly. Catch the trout. Repeat.
Not sure if this was the result Bono was looking for, but there you have it.
Putah is now officially over fished.
Now instead of a handful of humble fisherman on the creek, we got a whole bunch of guy's that have seen "the river runs through it" out there teaching everyone else how to do it.
I've met two guy's out there that I really like, and you know who you are, very helpful, humble and considerate, and I've also met a couple guy's that actually pushed me over on the trail to get to their spot. Litterally.... And I just had back surgery...Idiots Don't worry fellas you'll get yours
I'll be honest the last three times I was out there ready to fish, the parking lots where I like to fish were full. So I watched the "experts".
thats funny jl. i like it, its easy, just shut up and fish. oh ya my schedule for anyone that wants to go fishing is tuesdays and wednesday.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Every person I have ever met on putah or met from this board is very humble, freindly, and helpfull, And i'd fish with any of em anytime. KHB sounds like your meeting the wrong people out there. I've never seen a river runs through it, I guess its something about Bratt Pitt flyfishing ( i think thats the guys name) just dosen't interest me.
Ok, you guys have convinced me to make a special trip out there and see what all the hooplahhh is about. It really sounds awesome, this Putah Creek. Somebody please enlighten me on how to rig up and I'll be out this weekend... airfare permitting! Also, assuming I fly into San Francisco. where's a good fly shop?
Ok, well I made it out here despite the log jam at the Atlanta airport. And I am especially grateful to Black Cloud for following up with all the local knowledge any visiting angler could hope for. I wasn't able to get it together for Sunday fishing but I'm hoping to get up on the river tomorrow after sorting out a license. Anyone know if Sweeney's can issue licenses or is Walmart the place to go? You guys have a great forum going and I look forward to the tying, drifting, catching, and repeating! Hopefully I'll meet some of you up there. I should be easy to spot since I brought no wading gear with me. Ha!
I'm not sure about the best bet for licenses. Some of the shops run out of certain licenses late in the year. I'd call before I went to the shop and make sure they have some in stock. You might be able to get one at Pardesha Store which is a small convenience store at Putah Creek???? Does anyone know?
Conveniently, they sell many of Greg's Putah Creek flies there as well.
The market at Markley Cove (Lake Berryessa) sells them as well as Pardehsa's Market (Lake Solano). Berryessa Sporting Goods in Winters sells them, also. Of course Long's Drug Stores, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Wal Mart, and all fly shops sell them, too. As ONEWEIGHT said, you may want to call before stopping anywhere.

Greg, try a Longs drug store or a Raleys grocery for a fishing liscense. I might be able to fish a half day on thurs. I also have extra waders and boots you can borrow. Give me a call.
Thanks, AB. You're right, I just saw that online licensing is not yet offered here. Too bad. It's super easy back in Georgia. Florida is the same, as well. My dad was just visiting and we decided to go fishing so we went to the site paid the fee and printed it out right there. Done. Easy money for the state too.
Wish I had known about Long's...I was just in there getting damn cold meds! Happens every time I get on a plane.
Greg, It was a long day, I just got in about an hour ago. We fished both the east and west Carson, it was 17degrees this morning so the fishing didn't start till late in the morning. We caught about 30 fish between the three of us. Most were 10 t0 14 inches but we caught three over 20 inches. This is probably our last trip up there this year.
James, Sounds like a great day. I'm not surprised. 17 degrees is a bit chilly though. Regardless, wish I could have joined you. Hopefully I'll get square with the law tomorrow.
