Had a great day yesterday fishing the overlooked fast water with my g.f. A lot of people were out - not encouraging. I'll switch to the American if it gets any more crowded. Lots of bait guys, mostly polite, saw some fish being released.
6 to hand 16-18" and that many LDR's. Took a stomach (pump) sample and saw nothing but baetis 18-20. Their wing pads were distended, some had emerged and some were in process. One sample produced over 110 bugs.
Wading is still too tough in most of my favorite spots. Czech nymphing is my ticket for high flows.
Stop by Kiene's and give a visit. I use a Nor Vise exclusively, especially since I rep their products. We have one left at the shop for sale.
Bernie, aka Richard Hardwood. I might change my name to Richard Morningwood.
I believe Greg Schuerger introduced us a couple of years ago at Sweeney's...Anyhow, I bought a NorVise and like it as well. Just a question...How do you keep the thread from unraveling on the hook when the bobin hangs on the thread post? I made my own board and have the vise and thread post in-line...Thanks, JW.
Greg probably introduced us since I hung out at Sweeney's a lot.
Wind your thread up to the eye, if you can. Then back off the wraps to get back to where you're working. Three or four wraps will usuall do it. You need the thread to go "around the corner" right at the eye. Straight ring-eye hooks are not as easy as down-eye, but I still make it work. If I'm starting some pea**** toward the bend of the hook I just throw a whip finish in place. I hope you know how to whip finish by hand, otherwise it's a real pain.
